Don McClain65th St church of Christ 3 Nelson: Nelson: First: the context of the passage demonstrates that only repentance is connected with the removal of sin at salvation: (see verse 21). Peter’s next recorded sermon states only repent: (see 3:19). Acts 2:21 (NKJV) And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.'

Acts 3:19 (NKJV) Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

Don McClain65th St church of Christ 10Nelson: Second: Throughout Acts men demonstrated their faith and salvation prior to baptism, (cf 10:43-47) Acts 10:44-47 (NKJV) While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word...

Don McClain65th St church of Christ 13 The Holy Spirit was NOT poured out on the Gentiles to save them – But as a divine proclamation to the Jews that the Gentiles were to be extended salvation on the same terms. How could we resist God – (11:17)How could we resist God – (11:17) So we told them what they must do to be saved (11:17; 10:47,48)So we told them what they must do to be saved (11:17; 10:47,48)

Don McClain65th St church of Christ 15Nelson: Third: the soteriological passages throughout the New Testament do not include water baptism in the salvation experience - (John 3:16; Acts 16:31; Rom 4:10; Eph. 2:2:1-10; 1 Peter 1:18,19). Thus this verse more clearly reads: John 3:16; - cf 3:5 Acts 16:31; - cf 32-34 Rom 4:10; - cf 6:3-7 Eph. 2:2:1-10; - cf 5:26 1 Peter 1:18,19 – cf 3:21 Webster: Webster: “theology dealing with salvation especially as effected by Jesus Christ”

Don McClain65th St church of Christ 16Nelson: Third: the soteriological passages throughout the New Testament do not include water baptism in the salvation experience - (John 3:16; Acts 16:31; Rom 4:10; Eph. 2:2:1-10; 1 Peter 1:18,19). Thus this verse more clearly reads: Nelson Perversion Acts 2:38 “Repent for the remission of sins, and you will receive the gift which is the Holy Spirit; and let each of you be baptized in the name of Christ.”

Don McClain65th St church of Christ 17Nelson: Though water baptism does not save or wash away our sins, it is a command that needs to be obeyed speedily after conversion... 1 Peter 3:21 (NKJV) There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Don McClain65th St church of Christ 18Nelson: Though water baptism does not save or wash away our sins, it is a command that needs to be obeyed speedily after conversion... 1 Peter 3:21 (KJV) The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Don McClain65th St church of Christ 19 "For" (as used in #Ac 2:38 "for the forgiveness...") could have two meanings. If you saw a poster saying "Jesse James wanted for robbery", "for" could mean Jesse is wanted so he can commit a robbery, or is wanted because he has committed a robbery. The later sense is the correct one. So too in this passage, the word "for" signifies an action in the past. Otherwise, it would violate the entire tenor of the NT teaching on salvation by grace and not by works. (Online Bible Millennial Edition Version 1.30 2003)
