AOI HUMAN INGENUITY Finding and Using Metals By: Aisha Al-Misnad 8D

Reactivity Aluminum: Not very reactive and has no reaction with water or steam. Sodium: Very reactive it is second in the reactivity series. Quite reactive with cold water forming slightly neutralize alkali calcium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. Potassium: Very Reactive it is the most reactive metal. It reacts very quickly with cold water. Magnesium: Not very reactive and does not react with cold water.

Reactivity Series

Who discovered the metals? Aluminum was discovered by Pierre Berthier. Potassium was discovered by Sir Humphry Davy. Sodium was discovered by Sir Humphry Davy. Magnesium was discovered by Sir Humphry Davy.

Equations Aluminum: Aluminum+ water = lithium hydroxide + hydrogen gas Sodium: sodium + water = sodium hydroxide + hydrogen Potassium: Potassium + Water = Potassium Hydroxide + Hydrogen Magnesium: Magnesium + Water = Rubidium Hydroxide + Hydrogen

Protons, Neutrons and Electrons Lithium: 3 Protons & Electrons with 4 neutrons in the nucleus of the atom. Sodium:11 Protons & Electrons with 12 neutrons in the nucleus of the atom. Potassium: 19 Protons & Electrons with 20 neutrons in the nucleus of the atom. Magnesium:

Who created the periodic table? I believe that the scientist that created the first periodic table is Dmitri Mendeleev. Dmitri was born in Verhnie Aremzyani village, near Tobolsk, to Ivan Pavlovich Mendeleev and Maria Mendeleev.

Does a connection or relationship exist between the reactivity of a metal and when it was discovered? Generally, not reactive metals like gold are discovered a longer time ago at least longer than 1800 years ago. More reactive metals, like potassium and sodium are discovered later on, much later than gold, and they are more reactive. I think that it also has to do something with the shaping of the atoms and how dense they are.

Human Ingenuity The reactivity of a metal was determined by a human invention. These scientists brought about change in terms of the reactivity of metals. The scientists human ingenuity combined with scientific understanding led to extraordinary inventions as they came up with materials we did not know existed in our natural environment.
