3 Journal Question: Imagine what it would be like to be in the besieged city of Vicksburg, Mississippi. How would you feel knowing that food and supplies were being stopped from entering the city? 10 7. Examples of advancements that African Americans made during this time period were slavery was abolished, African Americans were now considered U.S. citizens, African American men could now serve in the military and African American men could now vote..
