4 Problem statement UB-HOORC working with Tawana Landboard –Develop a training module for the Tawana Land Board called “ sustainable development and environmentally sound decision-making training course “ to assist their members to be able to identify situations where : –there is no coherent land use plan –Land board members are not adequately equipped to guide development –there is need to improve the way decisions are made and the way planning is done –there is need to build capacity of land boards to make informed decisions about sustainable development, sustainable landuse planning and biodiversity considerations

5 Tasks Review literature to establish the current landuse planning processes in theTawana landboard establish the issues of concern about the existing the landuse planning process establish the extent to which the principles of biodiversity conservation or sustainable have been mainstreamed into the planning processes. prepare and produce a Training Manual, utilizing the existing model provided by the client Train trainers at UB-HOORC on the use of the manuals Conduct a pilot training with draft training module on a focus group of the Tawana Land Board with 2 with the UB trainers integrate the comments from the trainers and pilot training to produce the final training manual

10 Prepare and produce manuals An analysis of the existing environmental and biodiversity conservation issues and activities in the Tawana Landboard area. An analysis of the main weaknesses, strengths and challenges experienced by landboard and sub landboard members in their efforts at planning will be factored into the development of the manual; An analysis of the development planning skills levels of relevant planning officials in the district. A training needs assessment of Tawana landboard members; An analysis of the current institutional and legal arrangements An analysis of the issues of concern emerging from the interviews

11 Train trainers at UB-HOORC on the use of the manuals UB-HOORC trainers will be trained on the structure and use of the manuals for one(1) days. The inputs or suggestions of the trainers will be incorporated into the training manual over a day before the manual is piloted on the select group of landboard members. Conduct a pilot training with draft module on a focus group of the Tawana Land Board with the UB trainers -pilot testing with a focus group of the Tawana Land Board and other government and civil society organizations that are operational in the district and involved in landuse planning
