2 Health And Safety At Work Act (HSWA) is… A piece of Legislation enforced by the local authorities along with the Health and Safety Executive that covers occupational health and safety in the UK as well as other acts relevant to the working place.

4 What is ‘The Health And Safety Executive’?......... According to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_and_Safety_at _Work_etc._Act_1974 ‘ Section 10 created two bodies corporate, the Health and Safety Commission and Health and Safety Executive who performed their respective functions on behalf of the Crown (section 10 and Schedule 2). The bodies had wide powers to further their objectives by all means other than borrowing money (On 1 April 2008, the two bodies merged, the aggregate taking the name Health and Safety Executive.’bodies corporatethe Crown borrowing money

5 Duties of employers……. To ensure the health and welfare of all his/her employees by: * Making sure all machinery/tools are maintained and safe to use. *Safe handling, transport, use and storage of workplace items and substances. *Necessary and relevant training and supervision of employees. *Maintenance of work environment and regular risk assessments.

6 Duties of employees……… *Work with employers to ensure health and safety is not compromised whilst carrying out duties. *Take care and safety of yourself and others whilst in the workplace.

7 Duties regarding substances used in the workplace….. *All substances are transported, used, stored and handled properly at all times. *Perfomance of necessary examinations of substances. *Follow correct use and disposal of substances as provided by manufacturer’s instructions.
