1 Global learning examples B: Investigating globalisation and interdependence The samples of work in this presentation were submitted by these schools as part of their applications for the Geography Quality Mark: Bishop Challoner School, Birmingham Broadwater School, Farncombe, Surrey John Gibbard School, Sharnbrook, Bedford Malmsbury School, Malmsbury, Wiltshire Sarum St Paul’s School, Salisbury.

2 Key Stage 1 have a unit on economic awareness. During this the children participate in activities where they have to earn money and then work collaboratively as a group to decide how to spend it. This is followed up using the Go Bananas resources from Oxfam and culminated with the children using Fair Trade products to host a Fair Trade Coffee Afternoon for the parents, where leaflets about Fair Trade are displayed and parents have the opportunity to purchase items from the Fair Trade stall. Children earning their wages, deciding what to spend it on, then buying their pudding. Year 1: Interdependence and Fair Trade

3 Newton Farm school is a FairTrade school and so we teach lessons which allow children to compare their own lives to the lives of others overseas. The children run a FairTrade tuck shop, speak with politicians about FairTrade issues, and work in all curriculum areas to support their learning. 4 A diary entry illustrating pupils’ understanding that we live in a culturally diverse country and that Divali is celebrated in Leicester. Pupils gain a greater understanding of a range of places in the world by comparing the locations of our school in Salisbury and Adhyapana school in Madurai, South India Year 6: Indian connections
