6  Antoine is in an advanced math class, he struggles in the class. Antoine comes to believe that he cannot do math and he is just “dumb”. As a result, he stops working and eventually fails the class.  But wait…………There is hope………..

7  Research suggests that those who are experts in any field are experts because they have over 10,000 hours of “practice” in their respective fields. (Gladwell, 2005)  “Talent is a starting point.”

8  For 30 years, Carol Dweck has done research in order to figure out why some people achieve their potential while equally talented others don’t.  The key, she found, isn’t ability; it’s whether you look at ability as something that is fixed or as something that can grow and be developed.

10  And stick to what they know well…challenges = risk of failure and a negative impact on self- image.
