November 7, 2013

Status * Concrete Repair Report was published in August 2013. * Included 40 recommendations for: * Revisions to standards. * New standards. * Revisions to NRC regulatory documents. * Research that is needed.

Status * Follow-up activities: * Pulled from the report each recommendation and the appropriate organization to address (SDOs, NRC). * Identified 4 primary SDOs and points of contact for each: * ACI, ASTM, ICRI, ASME * Fran Schrotter had a preliminary conversation with each SDO. * Letters were sent to each in September, including attachments.

Key Points in Letter * The NESCC’s Concrete Repair Task Group recently published a report, entitled, “Codes and Standards for the Repair of Nuclear Power Plant Concrete Structures: Recommendations for Future Development.” The report is provided as Attachment A. * We are seeking your organization’s engagement in assessing how the recommendations can be effectively implemented and in planning a path forward. We would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you about this either in person or via conference call ….

Key Points in Letter - Continued * In preparation for that discussion, Attachment B contains items specific to your organization that have been extracted from the task group report for your convenience. Along with those items, it may be helpful to consider the following: * Significance of the issues and recommendations to your organization. * Feasibility of and potential issues with implementing the applicable recommendations by your organization. * Relationship of these recommendations to other efforts in your organization (or that you are aware of), and the relative priority you would place on the recommendations.

Status * Follow-up activities - continued: * Only ACI has responded to date: * Have strategy for addressing recommendations * Provided appropriate contacts * Agreed to a discussion * A conference call with ACI is scheduled for later this month. * Other SDOs that have not responded will be contacted again. * Process for following up is being documented so that it can be repeated for future task group reports. * Response from the NRC as an end user – provided by Rick Jervey.
