CL-MIMO Operation Scenarios Nortel Networks

What has been fixed in last recirculation CL-MIMO is used in band AMC (2X3) permutation CL-MIMO channel state information (PMI, CQI) are estimated from the midamble Matrix A support and granularity for the band AMC

What needs to be fixed The feedback content and granularity of the feedback –How many best bands –PMI –CQI –Rank Feedback mechanism –Feedback header (types 0110, 1011) –Primary CQICH –Secondary CQICH

What is in the current draft and the issues Feedback mechanisms –Feedback header type 0110 12 bits bitmap and maximum 4 CQIs are reported Rank and MIMO type are not reported –Feedback header type 1101 – CL MIMO type 010 1 average CQI (5bits), 1 wideband PMI(6bits), and wideband rank (2 bits) are reported The Wideband reporting doesnt show the gains of the CL-MIMO –(doesnt leverage the gains of the frequency selective scheduling) –REP-REQ, REP-RSP messages Type 2.2: 12 bits bitmap and 4 bestband CQIs (20 bits) Type 2.4: 12 bits bitmap and 5 bestband CQIs (25 bits) Rank and MIMO type are not reported Overhead is high – needs to send REP-REQ to get the report every time

What is in the current draft and the issues –CQICH channel (6 bits) Enhanced CQICH –1 bit differential CQI (+/- 1 dB) for 5 best bands (page 829) Primary and secondary CQICH –1 bit differential CQI (+/- 1 dB) for 4 or 5 best bands (page 416) –3 bits or 6 bits PMI feedback (Type 0b100) (page 165) Rank reporting is done by puncturing the special code on the CQICH channel The number of best bands needs to be clarified –Secondary CQICH channel (4 bits) 3bits PMI feedback (page 818) Rank reporting is done by puncturing the special code on the CQICH channel Only 3 bits codebook transmission possible

Operation scenario 1/2 CQI and Best band reporting –Once in every N (configurable number) frames over feedback header type 0110 3X5 bits – 3 best band CQIs 12 bits -- Bit map 2 bits -- MIMO type 3 bits -- rank for the 3 best bands

Operation scenario 2/2 PMI reporting –In every frames there are two options –Option 1 Using Feedback header type 1101 –6X3 bits -- 3 best band PMIs –3X2 bits -- 2 bits differential CQI per band for those 3 best bands –8 bits -- reserved bits –Option 2 Using Primary and Secondary CQICH –6 bits - 1 PMI for the 3 best bands over primary CQICH –3X1 bits – I bit differential CQI per band for the 3 best band over secondary CQICH –1 bit - Reserved

Option 1 :Operation example A Feedback_Polling_IE Feedback header for type 1101 BS MS … … With feedback type = 1101 BS decides feedback periodicity (e.g, once per frame) BS decides the location of feedback Bs decides coding/modulation/repetition based on a MSs UL CINR Typically, one subchannel is required to carry one FH subheader, for high SNR users, BS can use high QAM, MS can piggy back traffic data to this feedback channel, for low SNR users, BS could use QPSK, rate ½ and repetition code to improve the feedback channel performance Feedback header for type 0110 MS sends feedback type 0110 by overriding the requested feedback type 1101 initial best AMC bends reporting Reset CQI values of best bends to prevent error accumulation of differential reporting Best band changes MS sends requested feedback type 1101 to report 3 best band PMI and differential CQIs based on the measurement on mid-amble Feedback_Polling_IE to de-allocate the feedback Same mechanism for CQI, PMI, Rank, Band AMC Use Feedback-Polling_IE once for the allocation and once for de- allocation of the FH, no need to do it every frame MS decides when to update BAND information changes instead of pre- determined by BS, which has no little knowledge

Option 1: Operation example B Feedback_Polling_IE (type 0110) Feedback header type 1101 BS MS … … BS decides the periodicity for both type of feedbacks Need two separate polling IEs MS send two feedback on separate feedback channels Feedback header for type 0110 MS sends requested feedback header type 0110 to report the location and CQI of best AMC bands MS sends requested feedback type 1101 to report 3 best band PMI and differential CQIs based on the measurement on mid- amble Feedback_Polling_IEs to de-allocate the feedback Feedback_Polling_IE (type 1101) Similar to example A except BS controls the reporting periodicity

Option 2: Operation example Feedback_Polling_IE (type 0110) Primary and secondary CQICH BS MS … … BS decides the periodicity for both type of feedbacks Need two separate IEs MS send two feedback on separate feedback channels Feedback header for type 0110 MS sends requested feedback header type 0110 to report the location and CQI of best AMC bands MS sends 1 PMI and 3 bits differential CQI via primary and secondary CQICH based on the measurement on mid-amble Feedback_Polling_IE and CQICH_Enh_Alloc_IEt o de-allocate the feedback CQICH_Enh_Alloc_IE

Option 1 to 2 switching: Operation example A Feedback header for type 1101 BS MS … … Feedback header for type 0110 When MS receives the polling IE to deallocate the FH type 1101, MS starts to send FH type 0110 It reports the bestband bitmap, 3 best band CQIs and rank based on the option 2 calculation of the best bands and rank MS continued to send requested feedback type 1101 to report 3 best band PMI and differential CQIs based on the measurement on mid-amble … Primary and secondary CQICH From the reported CQI values BS decides that the MS is in low SNIR region, want to switch to Option 2 and send Feedback_Polling_IE (Type 0110) and CQICH_Enh_Alloc_IE Once the MS receives the CQICH_Enh_Alloc_IE it starts to report 1 PMI for 3 best bands and differential CQIs from the next FH type 0110 transmission MS changes the bestband, PMI and Rank calculation accordingly Feedback_Polling_IE to de-allocate the feedback heder type 1101 MS starts to send the 1 PMI for 3 bands and diff CQI

Option 1 to 2 switching: Operation example B Feedback header for type 1101 BS MS … … Feedback header for type 0110 After MS receives the CQICH_Enh_Alloc_IE MS sends feedback type 0110 based on the calculation for option 2 It reports the bestband bitmap, 3 best band CQIs and rank MS continued to send requested feedback type 1101 to report 3 best band PMI and differential CQIs based on the measurement on mid-amble … Primary and secondary CQICH From the reported CQI values BS decides that the MS is in low SNIR region, want to switch to Option 2 and send CQICH_Enh_Alloc_IE Once the MS receives the CQICH_Enh_Alloc_IE it starts to report 1 PMI for 3 best bands and differential CQIs from the next FH type 0110 transmission MS changes the bestband, PMI and Rank calculation accordingly Feedback_Polling_IE to de-allocate the feedback header type 1101

Option 2 to 1 switching: Operation example Primary and secondary CQICH BS MS … … MS continues to send 1 PMI and diff. CQI Feedback header for type 0110 MS starts to send 3 PMI and diff. CQI via FH type 1101 After MS receives the polling IE for FH type 1101 MS start to send the FH header type 0110 based on option 1 calculation It reports the bestband bitmap, 3 best band CQIs and rank CQICH_Enh_Alloc_IEt o de-allocate the feedback From the reported CQI values BS decides that the MS is in high SNIR region, want to switch to Option 1 and send Feedback_Polling_IE (type 1101) Feedback header for type 1101
