2 A is for Ames ISU was the first college to have a land- grant university. ISU was first opened in 1879!

3 B is for Black squirrels
black squirrels are natural gardeners of the animal world, they have helped populate trees in Iowa. They will adapt to the surroundings in Iowa that is good because Iowa is unpredictable

4 C is for Cows In Iowa a 1,000 pound calf will produce 4 tons of manure in one year. We use cows for beef, steak and also milk.

5 E is for Eastern Gold Finch
The Eastern Gold Finch is Iowa's states bird. A male Eastern Gold Finch is brighter than a female.

6 D is for Des Moines Des Moines was named after the Des Moines river.
Des Moines is the capital of Iowa.

7 F is for Field of dreams Field of dreams is a corn field in Iowa.
It is also a movie about baseball called a Field of dreams witch was filmed at a place called Field of dreams.

8 G is for Geode. A Geode is all most always lined with crystals.
They are located in the southeastern part f Iowa.

9 H is for Herbert Hoover Herbert Hoover was the 31st president, he was born in West Branch . Herbert Hoover was the fattest president he had a custom bathtub made for him.

10 is for Ioway tribe The Ioway tribe was the first tribe to be none in Iowa. Iowa was named after the Ioway tribe.

11 J is for John Wayne John Wayne was the most famous western film maker. He was born in Iowa that is why he is important to Iowa.

12 K is for Kate Shelly bridge
It was the first bridge to be named after someone. It is a railroad bridge located in the Midwestern part of Iowa .

13 L is for living history farms
Living History farms is a 500 acre open air museum . They have 3 different farms one is from the 1850’s the other is from the 1700’s the last one is from the 1900’szx

14 M is for the Missouri river
It separates Nebraska from Iowa. It was used to transport goods .

15 N is for Newton It was named Newton because it was a new town and the were 70 tons of coal hauled out from Newton a day! Newton had the first washing machine. { Maintain company}

16 O is for the Oak tree There are over 600species exist.
The Oak tree is Iowa's state tree . It is the state tree because it is found all over Iowa.

17 P is for Popcorn balls This popcorn ball is 22 feet tall!
The popcorn ball weighed 2,252 pounds it was made Sac City.

18 Q is for Quaker Oats It was first started in Cedar Rapids in 1873.
John and Robert Stuart { father and son} and George Douglas {Johns cousin } started the company.

19 R is for Ragbrai It is a bike ride across Iowa.
The length of the rout averages 472 mile Ragbrai – register annual great bike ride across Iowa.

20 S is for Snake alley Snake alley i9s located in Burlington Iowa.
It is made out of limestone and blue clay bricks.

21 T is for Trent and Travis
They are world champs wrestling twins. They were born in Iowa.

22 U is for Underwood Underwood was started in 1845.
It was named after a train conductor.

23 V is for Villisca axe murder
Six children were killed. There neighbor discovered it.

24 W is for Wild Rose It is Iowas state bird.
It is a pinkish reddish color .

25 X is for Xavier high school
It’s the 6th biggest High school in Iowa. It is located in clear Rapids Iowa.

26 Y is for Yellow River state park.
It is established in 1933 by the civilian conservation corp with land at the mouth the Yellow River. It has many hiking trails.

27 Z is for Zearing Zearing was first found on October 17 1888.
Zearing was named after Willam Zearing
