5 SDIS What is SDIS? Satellite Digital Imaging System

6 SDIS Continued Technology that enables CAP to send high resolution digital imagery from CAP aircraft to anyone anywhere in the world Images are sent as JPEG attachments via standard to multiple addresses and/or a password-protected website Imagery is transmitted near real-time. Files take less than 2 minutes to transmit.

The equipment above is the new national standard. - Averaged 27,000 CD flying hours over the past five years - CAP flew 14,000 hours to satisfy CD customer requirements in FY02 - The $1,487,000 programmed by OSD for CAP CD operations will only fund 10,400 flying hours - If no additional funding is received for CD operations, we have a 3,600 hour shortfall in meeting the requirements of the CD customers for FY02 (and US Customs is back on board this year) - CAP has already flown nearly 300 hours for CD training so far in FY03, making the shortfall in meeting last year's CD requirements of almost 4,000 hours - It is not prudent for CAP to continue to approve CD training missions with a 4,000 hour deficit in its CD flying program

11 HSI – What does it do? HSI Technology allows a sensor on a moving platform to detect reflected radiation (light) from objects on the ground. Algorithms allow ARCHER to: Detect spectral anomalies (things that do not “belong”) Detect specific spectral signatures using matched filters (find things with known spectral properties) Detect changes over time Algorithms are applied in real-time, and require little to no user input

21 Air Force Mission Training $
Use NEC approved formula for initial allocation: Square Miles of the wing – 10% Total Wing Membership – 15% Qualified Mission Pilots – 40% Qualified Mission Observers – 35% Utilize observer and pilot data in MIMS – that includes roll-ins from WMU, Paperless Wing, and other systems coordinated with CAP/IT & DO. Wing budgets have been decreased to support training for new systems and aircraft as well as more focused training through the Pilot Continuation Training Program Regions can and do hold training funds for region level training programs, and may re-distribute funds when wings are under executing their programs.

Training for 42 Personnel (2 per new aircraft) Need highly experienced check pilots/CFIIs Ideally personnel comfortable working with high tech equipment should be selected Personnel need a full week to complete training 2 days for travel (one on each end) 5 days of intensive classroom and in-flight training Lodging and Per Diem in accordance with the Joint Federal Travel Regulations will be reimbursed Estimated Total Cost: $71K, split between FY05 ($44K) and FY06 ($27K)

23 ARCHER Training Training for 162 Personnel
Need highly experienced crew members, not necessarily pilots Personnel must be comfortable working with high tech equipment in flight May be necessary to require personnel to be capable of maintaining a Secret Security Clearance Personnel need 5 full days to complete training 2 days for travel (one on each end) 3 days of intensive classroom and in-flight training Lodging and Per Diem in accordance with the Joint Federal Travel Regulations will be reimbursed Estimated Total Cost: $122K split between FY05 ($27K) and FY06 ($95K)

24 GA-8 Training Training for 32 Personnel (2 per new aircraft)
Need highly experienced check pilot/CFIIs Personnel need 5 full days to complete training 2 days for travel (one on each end) 3 days of intensive classroom and in-flight training Lodging and Per Diem in accordance with the Joint Federal Travel Regulations will be reimbursed Estimated Total Cost: $39K (All in FY05)

All Courses are conducted at Camp Atterbury, Edinburgh, IN with support from the Indiana National Guard 2006 Student Fee: Expected to be $155 for any course Limited scholarships are available from the NESA Alumni Association – Contact HQ CAP/DOS for more information Students can take multiple courses in back to back sessions, but not in the same week Personnel completing all requirements for emergency services specialties on site will receive 101 cards on site in accordance with CAPR 60-3, and take home necessary training documentation Participants are responsible for their own transportation and equipment though some assistance may be available upon request Interested personnel can find additional information about any course and apply online at:

49 CAPF 18 Reporting Reports are due by the 20th of each month
Fiscal year flying hour reports must be updated by 31 October of the next FY to meet other national reporting requirements Negative reports are required Be sure to include member owned flying time and report aircraft maintenance down days Make sure aircraft maintainers and responsible staff officers update the aircraft status If you need assistance assigning additional personnel privileges contact HQ CAP/DOS (Terry Raymond) It is possible to assign individual aircraft custodians privileges – don’t be afraid to ask

50 CAPF 82 Reporting Reports are due by the 20th of each month
Fiscal year flying hour reports must be updated by 31 October of the next FY to meet other national reporting requirements Negative Reports are Required The CAPF 82 is important because this allows us to make budget estimates for available funding to support customers Wing Commanders can view data through the national web site and selecting CAPF 82 on the Forms page If you need assistance accessing the reports or assigning privileges for your personnel, contact HQ CAP/DOS (Norm Ginther)

51 Online Alert Rosters Automatically forwarded to AFRCC and AFNSEP
Special cases can be handled for situations like rotating pagers or another local contact process If your wing has a special need to support this, feel free to contact the NOC for support The ability to adjust the report for special cases at the wing and region level is under development – expect more soon Be sure to update your information as changes occur We. AFRCC, or AFNSEP may contact the wrong personnel first otherwise Some resource data is only available locally – until we have day to day access to updates, we must rely on your staff for currency and reliability of the information

53 SDIS Status Reporting There are currently 56 complete systems nationally being maintained by regional and wing custodians as well as 13 trays for hot swapping systems already in the field We expect that there will be at least 7 more complete systems by the close of FY05, many of which will be maintained by wing custodians, as well as 15 more trays – that does not include many locally funded systems or trays being procured System custodians need to keep the status of their systems updated - there is great interest in these systems, and the NOC can’t offer our services accurately unless it is kept current

55 ARCHER Status Reporting
16 Complete Systems will be fielded by June of FY06 1 Spare will be kept at the NTC for shipping in an emergency or routine maintenance Just like SDIS, the system custodians will need to keep the status of their system updated - there is already great interest in these systems as well.
