4. Festivals/Holidays/Celebrations Il ud-fitr is a festival that was celebrated during the lifetime of Muhammad Hegira, is a festival that commemorates Muhammad moving to Medina and starting the first Islamic state. Ashura, is a festival that commemorates the martyrdom of Iman Hussein

5. Rituals Praying 5 times a day toward Mecca Fasting during the daylight hours during the holy month of Ramadan Pilgrimage to the Mecca at least once during their lifetime Almsgiving to the poor and the mosque

6. Symbols/Objects Crescent Moon- symbolizing the lunar calendar which the Muslims live by Prayer rug-used when making daily prayers, the top of the diamond always faces the Mecca Prayer Hat-only worn by men, usually worn 24/7

7. Basic Beliefs Muslims believe there is only 1God, he has created all things, he’s powerful and omnipotent They follow the five pillars of Islam: Shahadah, Salat, Sawn, Zakat, and Hajj They also believe that If you die in Jihad or on Hajj you will go straight to heaven

8. Holy Books/Places of Worship Qu’ran (Koran) given to Muhammad by the angel Gabriel Mosques Dome of the Rock
