“We have a new privileged class in America. We used to think of government workers as underpaid public servants. Now they are better paid than the people who pay their salaries.”

Right here at home! Near miss gubernatorial candidate Chris Dudley: “I will ask all government employees to pick up a percentage of the PERS” “I will ask public employees to pay 16.5 % of their health care costs” “ I will establish a position in the Governor’s office to lead a drive to privatize state services”

Overall Vision Statement Oregon AFSCME Council 75 will fight for workplace justice and improved economic status for all of our members and Oregon’s middle class through member empowerment and activism. We will seek to build alliances with other labor organizations and community partners to strengthen our efforts to reclaim Oregon for the middle class and retain Oregon's unique quality of life. Innovation and continuous process improvement will be part of everything we do.

Politics Future Statement: We are the strongest political force because we are the best educated and most politically active labor union in the state of Oregon.

Organizing Future statement: Workplace by workplace, we will build our power towards a more just society with living wage jobs and dignity for all workers. AFSCME Council 75 members and staff are actively involved in excellent internal and external organizing programs. We actively recruit younger and new member leaders.

Representation & Internal Organizing Future statement: AFSCME Council 75 provides high quality member representation. We will continue to negotiate the best contracts we can and provide excellent contract enforcement. We will achieve this through the use of dedicated, highly trained staff and local leaders. Our highest priority and focus is identifying, recruiting and developing new leaders in the workplace to assist in doing the work of the union. We recognize that strengthening our union through internal organizing is both a member leader and staff responsibility. Our aim is to create a culture where union activism is valued and sought after and where leadership is chosen by the example they set.

Succession Planning & Renewal Future statement: We have a systematic and sequential program to identify and develop a cadre of staff who are trained and ready to compete to step into leadership positions. All staff and member leaders embrace the need to identify, recruit and develop an ever-expanding group of new member leaders and activists.

COMMUNICATIONS Future statement: Council 75 operates a comprehensive communications plan strategy that fosters a long-term better understanding of who we are and what we do, which is actively disseminated to both internal and external audiences. A vital component of the plan addresses current and future needs of the local unions under the Council 75 umbrella. We will work in partnerships with other unions, community organizations, et al. to build coalitions that promote and support workers, the middle class and our issues to the general public. We will continue to be a leading partner in organizations such as Oregon Strong Voice, Working America, Jobs with Justice, the PERS Coalition and other like-minded organizations in the ongoing effort to properly educate both our members and the general public on our issues.
