Brownian Motion Objectives Be able to describe an experiment that demonstrates Brownian motion and discuss the evidence for the movement of molecules provided by such an experiment.

Outcomes ALL MUST Be able to describe an experiment that demonstrates Brownian motion MOST SHOULD Be able to discuss and explain the evidence for the movement of molecules provided by such an experiment.

Brownian Motion Movement of smoke cells were observed under the microscope Random motion

The motion is due to the collisions of the (invisible) air molecules with the much larger particles of smoke. Heating the cell makes the smoke particles' motion even more violent due to the increased velocity of the air molecules.

Outcomes ALL MUST Be able to describe an experiment that demonstrates Brownian motion MOST SHOULD Be able to discuss and explain the evidence for the movement of molecules provided by such an experiment.
