7 NAHLN- A State and Federal Partnership to Safeguard Animal Health Diagnostic Development NVSL/FADDL and NAHLN  Completed Negative Cohorts for FMD, ASF, Rinderpest– April 2011 11 NAHLN labs participated ~ 6000 FMD, 1100 ASF and 1350 RP samples tested Assay validation, result sharing and communication protocols  Current projects: Collaboration between with NVSL, DHS, FAZD, NAHLN labs: o RT-PCR for FMD in milk o Optimization of RNA extraction o Negative cohort o FMD Penside test o Negative cohort Collaboration between NVSL, DHS and NAHLN labs: Deployment of FMD Serology to NAHLN labs Negative cohort Negative cohorts for Lumpy Skin Disease and Contagious Bovine Pleuopneumonia 7 July 2011

11 NAHLN- A State and Federal Partnership to Safeguard Animal Health NAHLN Coordinating Council 11 July2011  Established 2009 with State and Federal representation  Regular meetings  Face to face as possible and monthly conference calls  Currently reviewing possible options for enhanced laboratory network structures as well as the NAHLN strategic plan  Will obtain input from state, Federal and industry stakeholders prior to finalization

13 NAHLN- A State and Federal Partnership to Safeguard Animal Health NAHLN Budget FY10 NIFA  $4.4M/year through Food and Ag Defense Initiative  Funding supports NAHLN lab infrastructure 12 Core and 16 Member labs Personnel – technical, QA, and IT as well as equipment APHIS  $6.5 M/year through AHMS and Vet Diagnostics  Funding supports laboratory review process, personnel, IT infrastructure, training, surveillance, reference materials, proficiency testing, maintenance of equipment, and infrastructure support of QMS and IT systems in 12 Member labs 13 July2011
