1 Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Associate Awards and Technical Assistance Theo Dillaha, Program Director SANREM CRSP The SANREM CRSP is made possible by the United States Agency for International Development and the generous support of the American people through Cooperative Agreement No. EPP-A-00- 04-00013-00

2 Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Leader with Associate Award (LWA) Type of Cooperative Agreement designed to facilitate additional buy-in/funding from USAID Missions and Offices. Because of the Leader Award, the SANREM is pre-qualified to do related SA and NRM work for USAID.

Terminology refers to Awards not to recipients The Leader is the initial award (the SANREM award to the ME) Associate Awards are additional awards or buy-ins from Missions or other offices to the SANREM.

6 Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Associate Award Process 1.Mission drafts description of Technical Needs 2.SANREM AOTR reviews 3.Mission Contacts ME with request 4.ME & Mission develop full Scope of Work 5.ME identifies appropriate technical expertise 6.Award is signed Caution: You cannot use USAID funds to solicit USAID funds, so if you are working on an associate award, you must be doing so on non- USAID funds.

Saves time: no competition required Saves effort: Mission award documents are simplified compared to other finding mechanisms Improves tracking: Financial reporting goes directly to Missions Direct technical reporting to Missions

8 Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Potential Benefits for Recipients Improved awareness: sends signal that the CRSPs are looking to expand partnerships beyond HQ to field missions Increased Buy-in: may facilitate more Mission funding for additional research, institutional development, or training programs

9 Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Phase III Associate Awards Payments for Ecosystems Services Training for USAID personnel, USAID/EGAT/NRM Southern Sudan Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Higher Education Needs Assessment, USAID/Sudan

10 Office of International Research, Education, and Development, Virginia Tech Technical Assistance SANREM program providing $50,000 per year in SANREM funding to provide quick direct technical assistance to Missions. Technical assistance must be consistent with the general program description of the SANREM Leader award (SA & NRM). SANREM AOTR determines whether the proposed technical assistance activity is consistent with the SANREM CRSP mandate.
