3 3 Findings from Research and Practice Findings from Research and Practice Effective programs focus on a wide range of youth developmental needs. Narrow-focused training and employment programs have not resulted in long-term gains for young people.

4 4 What is a Youth Development Approach? Focus on the assets a young person possesses Communicate high expectations Provide opportunities for leadership Encourage a sense of personal identity

5 5 Lessons of Effective Practice* There is no single model -- no “one size fits all.” Work is central and must be a positive developmental activity. Workforce development activities must be tailored to individual needs.
