All rights reserved. 3 “Asynchronous” vs. “Synchronous” Asynchronous “Slip Frequency” –Rotor rotates at slightly lower frequency than rotating electromagnetic field Example: –Rotor commanded to rotate at 1750 RPM –Electromagnetic field needs to rotate at 1800 RPM Synchronous No “Slip Frequency” –Rotor rotates at same frequency as rotating electromagnetic field
