When creating a new presentation: – Blank presentation – create a presentation from scratch. – From design template – templates are already formatted with colors, fonts, and layouts. – From AutoContent wizard – guides you through a series of questions about the type of presentation, output options, and presentation style and options.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 7 Applying a Design Template Design templates are predesigned graphic styles that you can apply to your slides. You can change the color scheme, font, formatting, and layout of your slides in a design template to create a different look.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 8 Format Slides You can use a design template to change the appearance of a single slide without changing the rest of the slides in the presentation.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 9 Use the Slide Master The slide master controls the formatting for all slides in the presentation. You can use the slide master to change such items as the font, size, color, style, alignment, spacing, and background. Changing the slide master affects the appearance of all of the slides and gives them a consistent look. You can add headers and footers to slides and also place an object, such as a logo or graphic, on every slide by placing the object on the slide master.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 10 Edit Pictures in PowerPoint PowerPoint contains picture-editing features that allow you to edit a picture without using another picture-editing program. The Picture toolbar allows you to adjust the color, contrast, and brightness of your picture. You can also crop, rotate, add a border, compress, or set a transparent color.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 11 Work with Text on Slides Adding text to slides Adding notes to a slide Change alignment, spacing, case, and tabs Working with bullets Changing text appearance

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 12 Check Spelling and Style Automatic spell checking identifies misspellings and words that are not in its dictionary by underlining them with a wavy red line immediately after you key them.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 13 Check Spelling and Style (cont.) PowerPoint determines whether your presentation conforms to the standards of good style. For instance, title text size should be at least 36 points, and the number of bullets on a slide should not exceed six. It will also alert you to problems with visual clarity such as appropriate font usage and legibility, inconsistent capitalization, and end punctuation.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 14 Add Slides You can add a slide to a presentation by clicking the New Slide button on the toolbar. In Normal view, PowerPoint places the new slide after the currently displayed slide.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 15 Add Slides (cont.) Another way to add a slide is to copy it from another presentation. Choose Slides from Files from the Insert menu. Locate the presentation from which you want to copy a slide and click Display. Select the slide you want to copy and click Insert. PowerPoint inserts the slide after the one displayed on the screen.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 16 Add Clip Art If there is already a content placeholder on the slide, you can choose from the six options on the Content icon, each of which allows you to insert a different medium. If there is no placeholder, click Insert, choose Picture from the menu, and choose Clip Art from the submenu. Insert ClipArt appears in the task pane.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 17 Use Custom Animation You can add select animation effects to any of the objects on a slide by choosing Custom Animation from the Slide Show menu. Each animated object is assigned a number on the slide, and the corresponding number is listed in the task pane. The objects that are not assigned an animation effect do not have numbers.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 18 Add Sound You can add select sound effects to any text or object on a slide by choosing Custom Animation from the Slide Show menu. In the Effects dialog box, you can choose a sound from the existing sounds or add a sound from another file location.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 19 Use Slide Transitions Slide transitions determine how one slide is moved from the screen and how the next one appears. To set transitions between slides, choose Slide Transition from the Slide Show menu and make your choices in the Slide Transition dialog box that appears in the task pane.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 20 Insert a Hyperlink A hyperlink allows you to jump to another location. You can add a hyperlink to go to another slide within your presentation, a different presentation, another Office document, a Web site, or an e-mail address.

PowerPoint – Lesson 2 Microsoft Office 2003: Introductory Pasewark & Pasewark 21 Save a Presentation to Word You can send a presentation to Word to use as a handout or create other documents using the text and slides from the presentation.
