4  Describe program and motivate students  Introduce program and provide the end goal  We want to take you from nothing to becoming their own entrepreneur ◦ They want to know how much money this building is making per year ◦ Make handout for students  Bring students to one of HOW Properties locations ◦ 3221 Spring Garden Street ◦ Show them how we made a successful business  Show them how we went from small row home’s to our building making this amount of money in your neighborhood  $5000 or a penny day one and doubles each day  Need to set time tables The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasize business and entrepreneurial principles

5  Guest speaker will provide presentation with insight on his/her career ◦ About 15 minutes ◦ Need to find a true entrepreneurial ◦ Rick can talk to towards this with all his different businesses ◦ Counselor’s husband? plumbing  Students will take PI index ◦ Will help in placing students in groups ◦ 30 minutes  Students will begin thinking of ideas for their business (homework, due on Monday) (2 incentives) ◦ 3-5 ideas The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasize business and entrepreneurial principles

6  Brainstorming and group decision making process ◦ 20 ideas, vote top 10, then top 5, then choose winner ◦ Have examples prepared and models ◦ 40 minutes The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasize business and entrepreneurial principles

8  Explain purpose and benefits of writing business plan 1.Determine Need- Explain what this means to the students (definition) 2.How to satisfy need- Definition 3.Planning and finances- What does planning look like and what do we mean by financing ◦ 10 minutes  Students receive business plan hand out to fill in ◦ Rest of session The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasize business and entrepreneurial principles

9  Week 6 ◦ Explain to students different roles in a business  Marketing  Finance  Operations  Sales ◦ Assign roles to each student in the group  Each role will have pre-determined responsibilities  Students begin business plan in each of their roles  Week 7 ◦ Bring in experts to help with business plans ◦ Finish business plan WEEK 8 ◦ Bring in experts that can help with business plansBegin preparation for presentations ◦ Show them how they will be evaluated ◦ Assign groups presentation dat The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasize business and entrepreneurial principles

10  Students will present business plans to investors ◦ Max time for presentations is 15 minutes ◦ Audience will fill out feedback forms for each group ◦ (Will need to have feedback forms already built) The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasize business and entrepreneurial principles

11  Announce the 2 winners to the program ◦ Provide feedback as to why they were chosen ◦ Should students choose one of the groups??  Groups receive feedback forms  Allow groups to ask investors questions  Disperse business plans of winning groups ◦ Torrence will reassign remaining students into the two winning groups  10 minutes The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasi ze business and entrepreneurial principles

12  Week 12 ◦ Team building exercise  15 minutes ◦ New roles assigned to students  Students work with designated “leaders in each role  Prepare business plan for necessary funding  90 minutes (Week 12) The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasize business and entrepreneurial principles

13  Provide funding ◦ Groups will work with investors ◦ Determine where to allocate funds ◦ Prepare for start up of business ◦ Begin to order necessary materials to run business The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasize business and entrepreneurial principles

14  Groups will use this time to go out and run business  Students will be getting together twice a week ◦ One day out running business ◦ One day meet with investors and assess performance The RYYDA Program R ick Y oung Y outh D evelopment A cademy Providing teenager with personal, professional and academic enrichment activities that emphasize business and entrepreneurial principles
