Basic communication:  Faxes behave in a very polite way.  They start with handshaking.  Introducing each other at the beginning, and informing each other of their capabilities.  Messenger transmits data as fast or slow as the listener can receive.  The messenger will not send or receive before setting the correct transmission speed.  Messenger will always confirm to the listener if he has understood or not.  If the listener did not understand, the messenger will repeat exactly what he missed. (ECM mode)  If the listener did not understand, the messenger will tell his boss. (Non-ECM mode)  They don’t leave without saying “Bye (DCN)”
