2 Basic facts about Slovakia
It is one of a few landlock countries and lies in central Europe, it is a small country, Slovakia is mainly a hilly country with lowlands in the west and the south, the capital city of Slovakia is Bratislava, Slovakia has about 5 million inhabitants, and very often foreigners confuse Slovakia with Slovenia .

6 Bratislava Lies in the southeast of Slovakia,
Neighbours with Hungary and Austria, making it the only capital city to border two neighbouring countries, Vienna, in fact, is only 60 km away. Has about inhabitants, All important national institutions can be found in Bratislava, such as Parliament, Slovak National Theatre, Slovak National Museum, Gallery, etc. The industrial centre of Slovakia.

20 Malacky A Short Look into the History
Záhorie, part of Slovakia around Malacky, is a lowland rich in pines bordered by mountains Little Carpathians and Morava River. The town of Malacky has always been the centre of the region. The first written evidence about Malacky dates back to 1206.

21 Malacky was an important town on the trade roads
Malacky was an important town on the trade roads. Malacky started to grow in 1622 when Pavol Pálfi – an important nobleman – moved into the town. He started construction of a renaissance-style chateau in Malacky.

22 The town expanded. Pavol Pálfi began to build a monastery and a church which he gave to the Franciscan Order 1653. You can see the monastery and church with some fortification even today.

23 In the 19th century, the Napoleon´s troops looted the town and stole food in Cholera spread and a lot of people died.   However, people in Malacky survived the hard times then and many times after, and now their grandgrandchildren are still proud of their town.

24 Our School The name of our school is Základná škola Dr. Dérera – The elementary school of Dr. Dérer. It was founded in 1932, but it is a modern school. It has about 500 pupils and is the biggest in Malacky. There are about 45 teachers. The school has modern classes, IT laboratories, language laboratories, new Science labs, but a small gym .
