1 Accredited Standards Committee C63 ® - EMC Subcommittee 1: Techniques and Developments Zhong Chen SC1 Chair 05-01-2014

2 Accredited Standards Committee C63 ® - EMC Scope SC1 Techniques and Developments Scope Subcommittee 1 provides the technical expertise and resources necessary for maintaining existing and newly proposed C63 ® approved standards documents. New or existing measurement techniques and associated instrumentation, measurement methods, and limits development related to EMC are incorporated as assigned by the Main Committee ASC C63 ®.

3 Accredited Standards Committee C63 ® - EMC Memberships Subcommittee 1 and Working Group Membership List One new member Michael O’Dwyer from Apple

Update on Working Groups 4 C63.2 Introduction of suggested changes in October 2012 at ANSI C63 SC1 meeting PINS prepared and approved by ANSI C63 at meeting October 2012 PINS submitted to IEEE on May 8, 2013 Draft content of revised document to be completed by August 2014

November 2013C63® MeetingSlide 5 Major Changes in C63.2 Establish CISPR 16-1-1 as the relevant document for measuring equipment in the frequency range 9 kHz to 18 GHz (with some additions like frequency accuracy) Establish key specifications for the frequency range 18 GHz to 40 GHz using the same approach as in CISPR (independent of the specific implementation)

WG C63.4 Status Editing completed ANSI Public Review comment resolved BSR-9 forwarded to ANSI for release of document for publication Estimate publication by mid June 2014 or earlier Need to alert FCC to reference 2014 edition; drop referencing 2003 edition and 2009 edition WG meeting on Monday prioritized what should be investigated for inclusion in next edition (2018?) WG output will be entered into PINS-C for approval by C63 once C63.4 is published. Expect discussion at next C63 meeting 6

WG C63.5 Status PINS is on website –Active document from Oct 2012 Last WG meeting was held 4/29/2014 –16 people present, 1 on Phone/WebEx SC1 – May 20137

WG C63.5 Status and Plan First ballot ended – Nov 8, 2013 Failed ballot Comments compiled into matrix 45 out of 173 were classified ‘technical’ by commenter 35 accepted comments are left to include into draft WG disagreed with 11 of the comments Finish comment resolution and update of next draft by June 2014 8

C63.7 C63.7 published in 2005 –Covered only OATS under 1 GHz –Project now extended above 1 GHz First draft circulated to SC1 for initial comment last Friday –General approach used: Add above 1 GHz clauses Reconstruct so each existing clause has two parts: Below 1 GHz and above 1 GHz 9

Add new material as needed for major test sites with and effectively without gr’nd plane Added material: –OATS and covered OATS –Semi-anechoic chamber (SAC) –Fully anechoic room (FAR) –Test site grounding –Expanded bibliography/references –Introduced URLs to find more information –Cited use of “test sites” in C63.4, C63.5, C63.10, and C63.17 10

Timelines –Several webinars held to progress guide –WG meeting in Cedar Park on Monday Reviewed further contributions and reactions –Send “final” draft to SC1 by July for email ballot to send to C63 to form ballot group –C63 Ballot by September –Resolve ballot comments by October –Determine if any revision is needed prior to Mesa mtg –Publish by late 2014 or into 2015. SC1 approved the change of title in a new PINS PINS Motion 11

WG C63.25 PINS is on website; dated Oct 2007 Last WG meeting was held yesterday, 29 Apr 2014 –16 people present, 1 on Phone/WebEx –Membership was reviewed New chair selected, Dan Sigouin 12

13 C63.25 WG - Membership Sigouin, Dan - chair Kiemel, Greg– vice chair Camell, Dennis Chen, Zhong DeLisi, Bob Ghizzone, Dean Griffin, Andy Harrington, Tim Hodes, Harry Howard, Mike Mercer, Jeff Potts. Nate Schaefer, Werner Zainal, Khairul SC1 - May 201313

Measure TD and sVSWR at 4 spots and 2 heights in several labs. Need test plan Measure to 12 GHz Determine correlation between two methods. NWEMC chamber(s) measurement UL chamber measurement o Measure 8 facilities so far Look at using PODS/bicon as TD antenna Measure TD ringdown signature Study modeling of antennas o Compare different antennas Comparison of TD method with sVSWR 14

C63.25 Plans o Revise current draft to update IEEE formatting o Develop outline for new draft o Below 1 GHz: NSA, site comparison (RSM?) o Above 1 GHz: TD method, sVSWR Develop revised draft 15

WG C63.26 WWG met on April 28-29, 2014: 1.34 attendees (7 via webinar) + 9 observers 2.C63.10-2013 status 3.Draft of C63.26-201x circulated April 2014 to SC- 1 and WWG (9 comments from WWG members) 4.Major issues discussed during meeting: scope, definitions, instrumentation, conducted and radiated emissions, RF power and booster amplifier procedures. 5.New draft expected to be circulated August 2014

New Business Richard Kautz from Ford presented “Low Frequency (<30 MHz) Radiated Emission Measurement: Investigations Regarding Current & Potential New FCC & ANSI Procedures” –Wireless Power Transfer and inductive charging of vehicles –Measurement issues from Near field extrapolation –Chamber effects 17

A new PINS-C will be generated to study the issues and solutions presented by Ford from SC1. 18
