Connection – Self, World, or Text This reminds me of something that happened to me… This reminds me of something happening in the world… This reminds me of something I read in a different book… I have a personal connection to this text. Do you? I remember being in competitions and I really wanted to win. I remember

cheering another person even though I was eliminated (taken out of the game). I understand the feelings Andy has. He wants to win but he is a good sport and congratulates his classmate for winning the competition. This is my personal connection with this story. What is yours?

Reaction I felt (name the emotion here) when this happened because… My Reaction I felt happy when Andy decided to cheer on his classmate even though he did not win. I felt this way because he was a good sport. I have been in sports and seen some people react very poorly. It takes the fun out of it.

Opinion I agree/disagree with this because… I think this is wrong or right because… Make a judgment on character or event… My Opinion: I was proud of Andy. He did not do anything mean to Rachelle because she was good at hula hoop. She was good and he knew it and he congratulated her. Andy has good character!

P rediction I think this will happen next because… I don’t think this will happen next because.. If they wrote a sequel to this book/chapter I think this will happen because... My Prediction: If there was another chapter in this story, I predict that Andy would ask Rachelle to teach him how to hula hoop as well as she can. I think this because Andy was impressed and really wanted to do a great job. What do you think?

Q uestion: examples of questions I was wondering why this happened or how this happened because… I was wondering when this happened because… My question: When I was reading this I wondered how much practice they did before. Andy did not seem to know what to expect. He was surprised by the results. What questions did you have?

V isualization I imagine that this looked like… I imagine that this sounded like… I imagine that this felt like… I imagined everyone together with hula hoops flying around. I imagined Andy being nervous and too stiff to keep his hoop up. I heard everyone cheering and chanting for Rachelle in the end. What about you?

Reading is Thinking! Time to assess your progress! Assessment: The Hidden Treasure On Moodle *Use your journal to share one of each from the CROPQV. Self-reflection:Explain your thinking. 1. What did you discover about yourself as a reader? 2. Which CROPQV was easiest for you? 3. Which one was hardest for you?
