1 Good morning! Please take out a sheet of paper and answer the following questions: 1. Why do you think the international community was reluctant to get involved in the Rwandan genocide? 2. Why did the Europeans want to colonize Africa? 3. Why do you think the Europeans didn’t pay attention to ethnic groups and ethnic boundaries when drawing the political boundaries of countries?

2 Your task, should you choose to accept it (and you have to) is to complete a mini-DBQ on the colonization of Africa! You will use primary and secondary sources, as well as prior knowledge, complete the following prompt. Explain how colonization caused political, social, and economic problems in Africa.

3 Step 1—Define key words Use your electronic device to define the “words of importance” on your DBQ paper. Colonization: to create a colony in or on (a place) : to take control of (an area) and send people to live there Political: of or relating to government, a government, or the conduct of government Social: of or relating to people or society in general Economic: of, relating to, or based on the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services

You will use your textbook (p. 432, 468) AND/OR your notes AND/OR your own brain to answer these questions

5 Step 3—DOCUMENTS! You will need your textbook, YOUR BRAIN, and the packet I am giving you containing two pages front and back to answer these questions! The documents are organized into POLITICAL problems, SOCIAL problems, and ECONOMIC problems. COMPLETED BY THE END OF CLASS! TOMORROW…WE WRITE!!!!
