E150 Educational Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship In Comparative Perspective Week 10 Section Vanessa Beary veb682@mail.harvard.edu

HOUSEKEEPING Paper 3 Due Dates Conference consideration: 27 April Everyone else: 4 May Questions for the speaker? Email to Fernando before the lecture!

Paper 3 Overview The final paper is an opportunity for you to use all the analytic tools you have learned in this course. In this paper, you should demonstrate an understanding of vision, mission, theory of change, strategy, financial plan, and business plan. You may find these texts useful: Wolk, Andrew and Kreitz, Kelley. 2008. Business Planning for Enduring Social Impact Osterwalder, Alexander, et al. 2009. Business Model Generation. W. K. Kellogg Foundation. Logic Model Development Guide (especially useful for information on theories of change)

Paper 3 We highly recommend using figures/diagrams to represent your model (i.e. a logic model, a social impact model, etc). Please note that all tables, figures, and diagrams MUST be included in the appendices and not count towards the page limit.

Paper 3 To self-assess your plan you might use the following criteria to ensure that you have addressed all of the areas of a good business plan: Plan: The plan should reflect a deep understanding of the domain and implementation challenges and represents an innovative way to attack the core problem. Impact: Can the idea make a substantial difference? If so, how much of a difference? How will you know that it is making a difference? Is there a plan in place to assess performance? Is the idea disruptive? How?, Is the plan scalable?

Paper 3 Team: Does the team–organization—have the skills and experience required to implement the project and/or can recruit and retain additional talent? Is the team committed to the development of the plan? How will the communicate ideas effectively? Resources: The plan can be sustained financially, with a clear articulation of how financial and other resources will be obtained at each phase. Risks/Reward Management: The proposal reflects an understanding of the risks entailed in implementation. The team has a credible plan for managing the risk while maximizing the likelihood and magnitude of success.

Paper 3: Formatting In addition, please submit your final paper using the proper formatting: The paper should be a maximum of 20 pages (not including appendices) Times New Roman size 12 font 1” margins on all sides Double spaced Include a cover page Please submit at.doc or.docx Do not include your name on the paper or in the file name! Instead, use your HUID# Please put all tables and figures in appendices. All citations must be in APA format. [Ex. (Wolk & Kreitz, 2008)]
