1 Printing: Your printer might not print the same way our printers do, so make sure to try a couple of test prints. If things aren’t aligning quite right, experiment with the Scale to Fit Paper setting. It’s located in the Print dialog – just click Full Page Slides to get to it. And did you notice we made fold marks for you? They are really light, but if you don’t like them showing on your brochure, click View, Slide Master, and delete them before you print. Customizing the Content: If you need more placeholders for titles, subtitles or body text, just make a copy of what you need and drag it into place. PowerPoint’s Smart Guides will help you align it with everything else. We are always looking for volunteers to get involved! If you have an expertise that think can be useful drop us a line. who are we? Contact us! We are dedicated to improving university level science education and research on the African continent. We aim to foster capacity building through education and infrastructural support. For more information look inside, and check out our website: www.TReNDinAfrica.orgwww.TReNDinAfrica.org TReND in Africa was founded in 2011 by two Neuroscience Postdocs (Lucia Prieto and Tom Baden) and Sadiq Yusuf of Kampala International University, Uganda. Today, we count ~30 volunteers from 4 continents. Join us! Make a small donation today! ! Get involved! Volunteer with us! Develop your own project! If you have a related idea that you would like to develop consult us, we might be able to help you What could be a better donation for Africa than investment in higher education of their people? What for you might seem little, can make a big difference. Check our website for more details Tell your friends and colleague, like us on facebook Spread the word!

From TReND we run a wide range of educational activities, and support the establishment of top-level scientific facilities at several countries across the continent by leveraging large scale, low cost approaches to innovation and research. For this, we make use of latest technologies and developments, ranging from open source software and hardware approaches such as 3D printing, online teaching tools, and the use of the very cost-effetive yet powerful model organism, the fruit fly Drosophila. Our vision: To aid the development of African countries by supporting higher education and research. On-site implementation Top level education MSc. in Neuroscience Building Infrastructure Going into schools Massively Open Source We run neuroscience summer schools at African universities to teach local students how to perform cutting edge scientific research, even with limited resources. In particular, we promote the use of Drosophila as a model system for their ease of genetic access and cheap maintenance costs. Currently, we are establishing further courses in bioinformatics and on building lab equipment using 3D printing and Arduino microcontrollers. We collect used equipment from labs, as well as new equipment donated by companies and ship in bulk to our African partners. In our distribution model, the receiving university usually pays the shipping costs – which is less than 1,000 USD for ~150 kg. Got some spare stuff? We know someone who wants it! We are currently developing the first MSc in Neuroscience in East Africa at Kampala International University, supported by the University of Tübingen, Germany. The curriculum has already been approved by the Ugandan Ministry of education and we are working out on-site details before the launch – watch this space! We leverage free and open software and hardware approaches to improve science education and research on site. This involves teaching the use of 3D printing technologies, microcontrollers or the vast range of free and open software packages available today. We also run www.openeuroscience.com, where we gather exciting projects in the public domain that could be or are already being used for Neuroscience education and Research all over the world. www.openeuroscience.com Our outreach team consists mostly of alumni from our summer courses. These highly motivated university graduates hold regular visits in schools and universities around the region to get more young Africans interested in science. Scalability
