12) Johnny buys 8 oranges and gets 20 cents back in change from a $5 bill. What is the price of an orange? x: Price of an orange in cents 8x + 20 = 500 An orange costs 60 cents 8x = 480 x = 60 cents

16) A salesman has a base salary of $175 per week and a commission of $25 per item sold. How many items did he or she sell? Her total salary was $500. x: price of an item in $ 175 + 25x = 500 He sold 13 items. 25x = 325 x = 13 items
