5. How the copper rush helped the U.P. grow The copper rush started in 1843 in Copper County. The upper peninsula grew by people who went up there to try their luck and to get jobs and buy a house and food.

6. The person that helped the miners in the strike The copper strike started in 1913-1914. The copper strike started because c and h[ a mining company] tried to cut costs, but the miners didn’t like it because they would lose their jobs. Annie Clemenc was a person who supported the miners while they were in the strike. She used to carry the flag in marches they had.

7. When Michigan produced the most copper! When Michigan produced the most copper! Michigan produced the most copper in 1916. We don’t have mining in Michigan anymore and the last one that closed was the White Pine Mine. It closed in 1997.

8. Natural, capital and human resources Copper is a natural resource. Capital resources are hammers, trucks and factories and the drills that the miners used to dig underground. Human resources are people like miners.

9. FUN FACT! The first successful mines were the Cliff Mine near Eagle River and the Minesota (Yes, that is how they spelled it!) Mine near Rockland in Ontonagon County in the U.P. That is right next to Minnesota. Maybe that is why Minnesota is Minnesota, they just added an extra “N”!
