1 STEPHEN KING in 2003 The last three volumes in the Dark Tower series set for publication by Hodder & Stoughton - beginning with THE WOLVES OF CALLA - in the autumn of 2003. November 2003 is the month in which the much anticipated new Dark Tower novel, THE WOLVES OF CALLA, will be published. The Dark Tower series is King’s most visionary piece of storytelling. A magical mix of fantasy and horror, set in a world of extraordinary circumstances and filled with stunning visual imagery and memorable characters. It is five years since the last book in the series was published – but the long wait is finally over. The last two in the series, Volumes V1 and V11 are also scheduled for publication – both in 2004. For the first time Hodder will produce the new books in high quality trade-wide hardcover, with beautiful end papers and twelve-colour illustrations. Trade paperback and mass market paperback editions of all three books will follow. The massive build-up to THE WOLVES OF CALLA will start with the publication of classic new B-format editions of the first four titles in the series – THE GUNSLINGER (in a newly revised and expanded edition) and THE DRAWING OF THE THREE will come in August 2003, THE WASTE LANDS in September 2003 and WIZARD AND GLASS in October 2003. A box set of these four titles will be available in November, to compliment publication of the new THE WOLVES OF THE CALLA. In addition to this, Hodder will publish a comprehensive companion to the first four books, STEPHEN KING’S DARK TOWER: A CONCORDANCE, Volume 1, by Robin Furth. This is a detailed look at the books, giving character names, places and other cross-references. Volume 11 will be published coincident with the last volume in the Dark Tower series in 2004. Finally, moving on to 2004, THE SONG OF SUSANNAH will publish in June and THE DARK TOWER, the final book of the series, will come in November. The illustrators of these incredibly handsome new books will be Berni Wrightson, WOLVES OF THE CALLA, Darrel Anderson, THE SONG OF SUSANNAH and Michael Whelan, THE DARK TOWER. Commenting on the series, King said, “I started writing the DARK TOWER when I was still in college. It’s been a major part of my life and my writing career. I wanted to finish it both for the readers, who have been so faithful, and for myself. In the upcoming books you’ll meet new characters and you’ll see familiar faces like Ted Brautigan from HEARTS IN ATLANTIS, Father Callahan from ‘SALEM’S LOT … even Dinky Earnshaw from EVERYTHING’S EVENTUAL. For me, it’s like a finale and a reunion all at once. I’ve put everything I’ve got into these three books and I think it shows. I can say something about them that I’ve only been able to say about a handful of my previous novels: They work, they’re good and I’m proud to have written them.” Further information from KERRY HOOD on 020 7873 6l73
