5 Begins when : Power driven machinery (in factories) replaced work done in homes

6 Life Dramatically Changes Before: People lived the same as their parents Farming Died at young age Rural areas After: People can move up in society Factories Live longer cities

7 After the Industrial Rev: People become less self- sufficient

8 Farming improved with : –Crop rotation –Breeding –New tools

9 Agricultural Rev. greatly influenced the Industrial Revolution b/c - People were making more “$” so they had more “$” to invest… –People invested to businesses

12 GB takes the lead in this rev b/c –They have: A large labor supply (lots of people) Capital ( $ to invest) Natural resources

14 Factory system – a method of production where machines & workers work together under the control of managers.

15 Efficiency is the key word – Each person has an individual task – No longer does one person actually complete a project More can be produced quicker!

32 Women’s lives changed the most b/c they went to work! They left the home Their lives were no longer centered on the farms

33 Life was not easy! Fly lived together with other people who worked in the factories Their lives were “owned” by the mill owner. He owned the factory, their homes & the local stores
