First mission The first mission to Mars was on October 10, 1960 and it was planed to do a fly by. It was sponsored by the soviet union. First of many to fail. They tried again just 4 days after and that one also failed Molniya 1M No.1

All missions Over half of the missions to mars failed. In total 51 mission where only 22 were successful. Most resent mission was sent November 18 2013 and arrived on September 22 2014, called maven.

First successful mission The first successful one was November 28 1964, and the objective was a flyby. The returning spacecraft collected 21 images. This mission was operated by NASA, and it was only NASA’s second attempt at a flyby around mars. Mariner 4Atlas LV-3 Agena-D

Possible life Yes, mars could have been supported life. They found carbon dioxide, oxygen and water and they also found things that could only be there if there was once water on mars. They discovered all this after testing a rock sample collected by the mars rover

The mars rover discovers a streambed where water once flowed. Moved about 3 ft per second, and was about ankle to hip deep. This was discovered back in September 2012 There was once life and fresh water on mars, and we are now working on what caused it to go away. If we were around when there was water on mars, it would have been good and clean enough for us to drink. Mars could have been very similar to Earth a long time ago, and can potentially become like Earth Key Findings

Future Missions 2016- pick up all the gasses around mars 2018- explore mars further, try to find any more new things to discover 2020- Try to figure out where the water and life disappeared to and what caused it to leave. 2035- Maybe have humans visit mars?

1. Mars could be a habitable environment for living things. 2. The first successful mission was a flyby sponsored by the soviet union. 3. The carrier rocket from the first successful mission was called the Molniya. 4. There has been traces of nitrogen on Mars. 5. There being water once on Mars was discovered September of 2010 True or false

What was one of the big discoveries about mars and why was it significant ? Short answer
