Auditory Processing Hearing, Listening and Auditory Processing Hearing-passive, ability to sense sound Listening-active, ability to take in and filter out sound Auditory Processing- dynamic, what the brain does with what it hears

(C)AP assessments can be performed on children, adolescents or adults who meet the following criteria: Have no known hearing loss Are aged seven years or older Have normal or near-normal intellectual ability Can repeat words and sentences http://adelaidehearing.com/why-cant-my-child-listen/assessment-of-central-auditory-processing/#post-275

Auditory Processing Disorders: Top Ten Tips for Parents of Children with Auditory Processing Disorders (APD) 1. Change the listening environment. Children with APD have difficulty listening in environments with background noise. Before asking your child to follow a direction, turn off the TV, move away from the AC unit, turn down the fan, etc. Eliminate visual distractions as much as possible, especially from your child ’ s homework desk and tables. 2. Give your child strategies to help remember directions. As children with APD have difficulty following directions, it is important to teach your child specific strategies to cope with this problem. Ask the child to repeat the direction over and over in a low voice (and later, silently) until the task is finished. Teach the child to visualize the task-make a picture in your mind. See yourself going into your bedroom. See yourself getting your backpack. Now see yourself putting your library book into your backpack. 5 Brain Plasticity Auditory Processing is what the brain does with what it hears Brain Plasticity is the well researched and growing at a rapid rate. We know that if we provide the right stimulation with the right FREQUENCY, INTENSITY AND DURATION we will create changes within the brain.

The Listening Program® (TLP) from Advanced Brain Technologies is a music listening therapy which provides advanced auditory training for the brain. TLP is provided with the right frequency, intensity and duration that trains the auditory system to accurately process the full spectrum of sound for improved listening, learning and communication, supporting self regulation and social engagement.

There are many different facets of Auditory Processing and an individual may have a few specific challenges or quite a cluster. In any case the most important thing to recognize is that WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE we can improve our Auditory Processing effectively and relatively easily. This is not a condition that an individual should “just learn to cope with”

Fast ForWord Fast ForWord is a computerised learning advancement program that exercises the brain to increase processing speed and capacity, just as physical workouts train the body to be fitter and stronger. Based on over 30 years of research into how the brain learns, Fast ForWord was designed by some of the world’s leading learning researchers. The intensive and effective learning program is typically used 50 minutes a day, 5 days a week for a minimum of 12 weeks, which is the equivalent of over 60 hours of one-to-one learning instruction.
