13. CUSD Report Card Updates CUSD Goal: 1. To create a unified and simplified report card for all elementary school students district wide 2. To increase use of Parent Portal

14. Grades found in New Places Math Facts- now found in the math grade. Grade 1-6 will have one grade each quarter for specific math fact level (depending on grade) The one grade will be entered for progress report and then updated at the end of the quarter.

15. Grades found in New Places Accelerated Reader (AR) Grades 1-6 AR will also count in the Homework Completion category. 80-89% of goal-student eligible for Honor Roll 90-100% of goal-student eligible for Principal List AR- one reading comprehension grade will be taken each quarter (% correct) AR goals, parties, incentives, etc. are determined by grade levels

16. Grades found in New Places Phonograms Grades K-4 – find your phonogram grades listed in your Reading Grade Grades 5-6 – find your phonogram grades listed in your Language Grade

17. New Additions Speaking and Listening is now a separate category from the Language Grade. Poem Recitation will be this category. Speaking and Listening Standards can be found on the CUSD website under the curriculum tab with links under English Language Arts (ELA).

18. Homework Homework should take about 45 minutes every night. Sixth graders should also read for at least 30 minutes. Students should be able to complete homework independently. 3 strikes and you’re out (out being during lunch detention) format. * If a student has 3 x’s in their agenda during 1 week, they will be serving lunch detention

19. Communication Newsletters 1 including all subjects Will be published once a quarter – at the beginning Weekly graded assignments will come home in Thursday folder. The folder should be signed and returned with your child on Friday.

20. Human Growth and Development Adolescents ~ Toddlers Might notice mental, physical, social, emotional changes District has reviewed the content and it is now a 3 day long program. Boys (Mr. Rohde) and Girls (Miss Doran) are separated Covers: Puberty, hygiene, birth, conception, STDs A signed permission slip is required.

21. Art Masterpiece & Junior Achievement JA and Art Masterpiece will be covered in homeroom

22. ROOM PARENTS We have parents who are able to help in every area assigned to room parents: spring fling basket/booth, class parties, pool party luncheon, etc. All 6 th grade classrooms work together for the Spring Fling booth-Hawk Bingo

23. Tardiness/Pick up early The first bell rings at 8:35, and we pick students up on the playground. If students aren’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings at 8:40, they should check in at the school office before coming to class. Five unexcused tardies = one absence. Please be aware of your child’s schedule, it will be easier for the office to locate them, so you can get to your appointment on time.

24. Birthday Celebrations Students visit the principal’s office and receive a special gift and sticker on their birthday Staff members wish your child happy birthday all day! Classes will sing happy birthday to their classmate Do not send cupcakes or other food items Students may bring a small token pencil, eraser, etc. to pass out to classmates Parents may donate a book to their teacher in honor of the birthday Join your child for lunch!

25. Class Parties Winter party (end of 1 st semester) Valentine party Treats for the classroom should be purchased rather than homemade. And easy to pass out to each child. Thank you to anyone who can volunteer to help plan parties or attend
