3 3 mPortfolios An mPortfolio is the next generation of the ePortfolios. mPortfolios include content from mobile devices such as iPads, cell phones, laptops. Student’s lives are not fixed anymore and the mPortfolio takes that into account and references the mobile portion of their lives. 4 4 Mahara Mahara is the software that we have chosen for our ePortfolio system. Mahara is a framework of various online tools, databases, and presentation templates that allows students and faculty to create ePortfolios. 7 7 Social Networking? Everyone knows what facebook, twitter, and other such sites are. Social networking is the idea that through plain interaction word about you, what you do, and who you are is networked and spread. The majority of job leads come from networking. 8 8 Why not just do on PCILMS? The PCILMS is the formal structured part of the learning landscape. The mPortfolio platform, Mahara, is the reflective and social side. It allows the students to be creating and showcase what they have learned and talk about it. The mPortfolio and the PCILMS compliment each other in the educational landscape. 12 12 mPortfolios at PCI By following a few simple steps the students can begin to collect their artifacts and begin to develop their mPortfolio presence. This presence must be professional enough to allow them to share with their employers. Since the Mahara platform is international it is important that the students be given some guidance on what to fill out and what not to.
