We give our group a name to match our topic There are some Y1s and some Reception in each group. There are some girls and some boys. We work with different people every new topic.

We think together and make a list of topic ideas that interest us. We then hold a class vote and the topic that is the most popular is the one we do.

When we have our topic title we then think of all the questions we would like to find out the answers to.

We share our ideas of what activities we would like to do. We share our ideas and plan what we would like our role play area to be

Does working this way ensure that the National Curriculum gets covered?

Question posed by kids What makes a farm a farm? KS3 curriculum used for research – Relief maps/ climate maps/ road network maps Types of farms and the needs of animals and crops Google maps to demo how to create a map

The children were then challenged to use all the info to plan and design their own farm. They had to give reasons for their choices and try to draw their map as a birds eye view.

Question posed by kids Are all seasides the same? KS2/3 curriculum used for research Mapping seaside resorts visited by children Images of different seaside resorts to compare and contrast Human and Physical features Effect of transport access on seaside resorts

Children were given the option to look at different photographs to share and discuss Children shared what they like to do at the seaside They created a wish list for what their ideal seaside resort would be like Most of us prefer seaside resorts with few human features!

We have a thinking map in our classroom which helps us to explain our stages learning

We always try to invite experts to help us with our learning. We invite people in to help answer our questions. We go on trips to enhance our learning.

At the end of each topic we invite our mums and dads to come for an evening. We share our learning with them.

Each group created a display sharing things they had learnt about their continent.

Each group designed 2 activities for their parents to have a go at

We made invitations We made place mats, decorated cups, table centre pieces. We made vegetable soup for our parents and cakes for their pudding. We did a quiz We did some country dancing We dressed up and had a fab time!
