BALANOY (Ocimum basilicum L.) LEAVES EXTRACT
AS PERFUME ANMARJORIE S. BULLO Manjagao NHS

INTRODUCTION Scent has a lot to do with how people react towards people. Having that scent makes the person more comfortable with. The problem is, in these perfumes they may have nice and soothing scents but they can really have a bad effect in our environment and even to ourselves because of the chemical used in making it. The researcher thought of a way in which she can produce a soothing and great scent without harming the surroundings and community

INTRODUCTION The researcher will test if the leaves extract of balanoy leaves can be a better distributer rather than other essential oil. The study will try to help the environment by substituting the chemicals used in a perfume by using balanoy (Osmium basilicum L.) ) which is abundant in our country specifically in Barangay Manjagao in which balanoy is easy to cultivate. The plant grows well in a short period of time thus it is very easy for the people to use this material as an alternative perfume.

INTRODUCTION It can also lessen the expenses of the people that will buy perfumes. Inventing a perfume that has a citrus scent, cheap, doesn’t have a bad effect towards our environment and our health and since it is made from something that is abundant in our country it is very helpful.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The researcher aimed to determine if Balanoy (Osmium basilicum L.) leaves extract could be used as perfume.       Specifically, the study sought to answer the following questions: 1. Can Balanoy(Osmium basilicum L.) leaves extract be a better substitute for perfumes?

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
2. At which concentration of balanoy leaves extract will be the most effective as perfume? a.) 25 mg/ml b.) 30 mg/ml c.) 45 mg/ml 3. How efficient is balanoy leaves extract as a Perfume in terms of: a.) Fragrance b.) Price

HYPOTHESES Null Hypothesis : Balanoy leaves extract cannot be an alternative substitute for the chemicals used in making perfumes. Alternative Hypothesis: Balanoy extract can be an alternative substitute for the chemicals used in making perfumes.

MATERIALS AND METHODS For the study, the researcher will use Completely Randomized Design. There will be four independent variables: the three balanoy leaves extracts with different concentrations, with the balanoy leaves extract with (25 ml.) concentration as Treatment A, the balanoy extract (30 ml.) concentration as Treatment B, the balanoy leaves extract (45 ml.) concentration as Treatment C respectively and the commercialized perfume. There would be a total of 16 sets of subjects. Using simple random sampling, four of these sets are to receive each of the four treatments.

MATERIALS AND METHODS The researcher will use Complete Randomized Design in order to determine which of the 4 treatment is the most effective. One of the easiest ways to do this is by the Lottery method, in which the researcher would use slips of paper to determine what subjects will receive the treatments. For the researcher, this will be the most appropriate and efficient sampling technique for the research.

MATERIALS AND METHODS There are four set-ups: the first set-up is the balanoy perfume will be tested to thirty people and will be answering an observation sheet. The answers will be recorded. The second set-up, the expensive perfume will be tested to the same thirty people, they will be answering an observation sheet. The records will be compared to indicate which is better.

MATERIALS AND METHODS The procedures will start with preparing of the materials. The researchers will need a syringe, bowl, glass, clean bottle (to put on the finished product), balanoy leaves, water, ethyl alcohol, and vodka. 1. Collection of balanoy – The researcher will collect balanoy leaves from their backyard.

MATERIALS AND METHODS 2.Extraction of balanoy leaves – The researcher will have to extract the juice from the balanoy leaves. Put it in a clean glass or bowl. The perfume will make use up to 70% to 80% of balanoy leaves extract.

MATERIALS AND METHODS 3. Adding the essential oil and vodka – The researcher will have to buy or use essential oil and vodka. The perfume will have at least 15% to 30% of essential oil, and 5% to 10% of vodka.

MATERIALS AND METHODS 4. Mixing all the elements – The researcher will mix the extracted juice from the balanoy leaves, the essential oil, and vodka. The researcher will use a syringe and a mixer in mixing all these elements to measure the amount of materials she is using.
