5 Segment 1-General Safety in Your Program and Emergency Types This segment will focus on:  discussing general safety in a child care program;  identifying safety regulations;  creating safety rules with children; and  identifying the different types of emergency situations that you may encounter.

6 Activity Session-Hurricane Sandy Lotto Break- Remember to Turn down your TV’s  Begin by thinking about your emergency preparedness during Hurricane Sandy (October 2012).  Look over the activity sheet titled “Hurricane Sandy”.  Answer the questions on the sheet about your emergency preparedness during Hurricane Sandy.  If time permits share your ideas with the group.  When you finish this activity browse through your handouts to find out more valuable information about emergency preparedness.

8 Segment 2- Hurricanes and Evacuations This segment will focus on:  reviewing what to do in case of a hurricane;  discussing evacuations drills;  discussing regulations dealing with evacuations; and  identifying rules for transporting children in case of emergency.

9 Activity Session- Fire Alarm  Begin by thinking about what you would do in a fire emergency situation.  Look over the activity sheet titled “Emergency Situations”.  Answer the questions on the sheet about your emergency preparedness during a fire alarm.

12 Activity Sheet Info  This activity sheet will be used for all of the remaining activity sessions  Please be sure participants only answer the questions pertaining to the activity session that was introduced  Guest will be responding to the activity questions after each session

13 Segment 3-Fires, Families and What to Do During an Emergency This segment will focus on:  reviewing some ideas for what to do in case of a fire;  discussing how to work with families before, during and after an emergency situation; and  identifying what is meant by meeting places, relocation sites and sheltering in place.

14 Activity Session- Tornado  Begin by thinking about what you would do in a tornado emergency situation.  Look over the activity sheet titled “Emergency Situations”.  Answer the questions on the sheet about your emergency preparedness during a tornado.  If time permits share your ideas with the group.

15 Segment 4— Tornados and Supplies This segment will focus on:  reviewing what to do in case of a tornado;  discussing the importance of learning CPR and First Aid if you are a child care provider; and  investigating some important emergency supplies and their uses, including telephones, emergency kits and paperwork.

16 Activity Session- Accident  Begin by thinking about what you would do in an emergency situation in your program.  Look over the activity sheet titled “Emergency Situations”.  Answer the questions on the sheet about your emergency preparedness during an emergency.  If time permits share your ideas with the group.

17 Segment 5— Emergencies and What to do After This segment will focus on:  reviewing what to do in case of an emergency situation in your program;  discussing what to do after an emergency;  working with OCFS after an emergency; and  identifying how to help the children and staff feel safe and protected after an emergency.

18 Activity Session- Carbon Monoxide Alarm  Begin by thinking about what you would do in a carbon monoxide alarm situation.  Look over the activity sheet titled “Emergency Situations”.  Answer the questions on the sheet about your emergency preparedness during a carbon monoxide alarm.  If time permits share your ideas with the group.

19 Segment 6— Carbon Monoxide Alarm This segment will focus on:  reviewing what to do in the case of a carbon monoxide alarm.

20 Test  Test is “open book” so it should be given out at the beginning of the training and can be filled out as the training takes place.  Test will be read aloud twice at the end of the training.  Attestation statement must be signed in order to receive credit for the training.

21 Other Important Information  Be sure to review all policies and procedures in the Co-trainer guide.

22 Be sure to check your satellite transmission!  The satellite system can be checked for transmission from 12:15- 12:35 Monday-Friday.
