4. Distance Definition: The definition of distance is simply the length traveled in any direction

6. For example a man(yellow line) travels 5m east from his starting position or origin(X). This makes his total distance traveled 5m

7. Next the man(yellow line) travels 10m north making his distance 15m

8. The man decides to do an epic cartwheel across the court ending up 10m west. This makes his distance a total of 25m

9. The man is attacked by a killer bunny and sprints 10m south This makes his total distance 35m

10. The bunny lunges and then the man does a barrel roll going 14m at 45 degrees while throwing the holy hand grenade at the bunny This makes his distance 49m

11. Displacement How far an object is from its initial starting position and its direction

12. Now for our hero’s displacement Our hero travels 5m in the positive x direction or east Making his displacement 5mx(little hat)

13. Our hero wants to get some ice cream so he walks 10m positive y or north This makes his displacement 5mx(hat)+10m ŷ

14. Our hero didn’t get his change from the ice cream man so he chases him down going 10m negative x or west This makes his displacement - 5mx(hat) + 10my(hat)

15. Our hero aquired his change and went to 7/11 which was located 10m south of him. Making his displacement - 5mx(hat)

16. Our hero comes out of the 7/11 and then gets hit by a car which makes him fly 14m at 45 degrees. This makes his displacement 5mx(hat) + 9.9my(hat)

17. Now for our hero’s position Our hero travels 5m in the positive x direction or east Making his position 5mx(little hat)

18. Our hero wants to get some ice cream so he walks 10m positive y or north This makes his position 5mx(hat)+10m ŷ

19. Our hero didn’t get his change from the ice cream man so he chases him down going 10m negative x or west This makes his position -5mx(hat) + 10my(hat)
