3 Wireless USB(Universal Serial Bus) is a short-range, high-bandwidth wireless radio communication protocol. wireless Sometimes abbreviated as "WUSB", the USB Implementers Forum prefers to call the technology "Certified Wireless USB".USB Implementers Forum Based on the WiMedia Alliance's Ultra-WideBand (UWB) common radio platform, capable of sending 480 Mbit/s at distances up to 3 meters and 110 Mbit/s at up to 10 meters.WiMedia AllianceUltra-WideBandMbit/s It was designed to operate in the 3.1 to 10.6 GHz frequency range.GHz An upcoming 1.1 specification will increase speed to 1 Gbit/s and working frequencies up to 6 GHz.

6 Transactions use TDMA microscheduling. A split-transaction protocol is used. The specification defines four data transfer types:- Bulk transfers tap the channel as bandwidth is available. They use unidirectional pipes. Interrupt transfers serve short transactions,Maximum service period is guaranteed. Isochronous transfers provide guaranteed transfer rates and bounded latency for transmission attempts, as well as on-average constant data rate. Control transfers are the same as in USB 2.0.

7 Wireless USB minimize power consumption by the transmission/reception circuits. Power management can also affect data transport, since devices may control their power use at their discretion. Battery-powered operation requires reasonable battery life. The power target for WUSB radio will be introduced at less than 300 mW and drive to a target of 100 mW over time.

8 Connectivity W-USB interacts with wired USB via wire adapters. It implements the USB hub-spoke model. hub-spoke Connections are directed between the WUSB host and WUSB device.

9 Allows up to 127 devices to connect directly to a host. WUSB introduced a new Device Wire Adapter (DWA) class. Capability can be added to existing PCs through the use of a Host Wire Adapter (HWA). WUSB also supports dual-role devices (DRDs).

12 Provide adequate bandwidth. With 480 Mbps being the initial target and with future process technologies, exceeding limits of 1 Gbps. The specification is intended for WUSB to operate at less than 10 meters. Support quality delivery of rich digital multimedia formats, including audio and video. 15 Security feature includes Encryption Integrity check Key management and Authentication methods. For protecting outgoing frames, AES(Advanced Encryption Standard) CCM mode with 128 bits key stream is used. To use security features, WUSB utilizes three cryptographic keys; master key, pair-wise temporal key (PTK) and group temporal key (GTK).

16 A master key :-Used for generate all kinds of temporally used keys including the PTK and the GTK. A PTK :-Protects any unicast traffic between two ends sharing it for a session. A GTK :-A session key shared among members in a network or in a group.

17 UWB(Ultra Wide Band) A wireless technology for transmitting large amounts of digital data over a wide spectrum of frequency bands with very low power for a short distance.wirelessfrequency power Works on sender –receiver model. Capability of carrying huge amount of data to a large distance as well as can go in obstacle also. Application- In Radar, In voice and data transmission.

18 A common source of confusion is about the relationship between WUSB, WiMedia, and UWB. UWB is a new type of radio communication using pulses of energy which spread emitted Radio Frequency energy. UWB is not specific to WiMedia or any other company or group WUSB is a protocol promulgated by the USB-IF that uses WiMedia's UWB radio platform.USB-IF

19 The first Wireless USB implementations will likely be in the form of discrete silicon. These may include add-in cards and dongles along with embedded solutions to support the technology's introduction and subsequent rapid ramp up. But the wireless future will arrive once WUSB, along with the common ultra wideband platform, becomes a standard part of every processor and chipset and is integrated in CMOS silicon.

21 As the latest iteration of USB technology, wireless USB (WUSB) will offer the same functionality as standard wired USB devices but without the cabling. As the new Wireless USB Promoter Group prepares to develop the specifications that will help standardize the technology, the industry is planning products that can take advantage of the convenience and mobility that this new device interconnect will offer.
