3 Purpose of Course The purpose of this course is educate students in the use of Microsoft Power Point in making presentations You can get to the class website by typing the address http://www.rlccomputer.com into the address bar of Internet Explorer. Then click on the schedule for your location. Then find the entry for Getting Started and click on it to get to this page. http://www.rlccomputer.com

4 Website You can get to the class website by typing the address http://www.rlccomputer.com into the address bar of Internet Explorer and then pressing the Enter key on your keyboard. The current day's classes are listed on front page. Click the Getting Started entry if its there. http://www.rlccomputer.com If its not there then click on Courses on the main page. Then select Power Point Curriculum. Curriculum and click on it's entry.Power Point Curriculum Find the entry for Getting Started and click on it to get to this page. Please remember that you can always ask the Computer Lab Tech to help you get to this page..

6 Reference Material The reference book for this class is "Microsoft Power Point :Step by Step" by Joyce Cox and Joan Lambert published by Microsoft Press,Redmond,WA, 2010. A copy is available in the RLC Computer Lab. Microsoft Office 2010 for Dummies by Wallace Wang contains simplified help for Access,Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word and is also in the lab. A way of getting help is to go into Google and put in key words describing your problem and see what Google can find in the way of solutions to your problem which most probably other people have experienced before you.Google There is also a simple Microsoft Video CourseMicrosoft Video Course

7 Certificate of completion You can earn a Certificate of Completion by turning in satisfactory completed assignments for six of the classes by the next class.Certificate of Completion

11 Decide what words you want on the second slide. On a scrap piece of paper, write down between one and six words for the title of your second slide. Maybe My Second slide Also write down between at least three lines of text for the content of the slide.  My first line of text,  My second line of text,  My third line of text.

12 Share your idea of who you want to your second slide to look like with a partner Find a partner The person closest to the door shares for thirty seconds about who you want your second slide to look like. The other person just listen’s, doesn’t comment or give advice and then says “Thank you”. Then the other person shares for thirty seconds about who you want your second slide to look like. 16 My Second Slide In the Home tab,in the Slides group, click on New Slide. A new slide should appear with Click to add title at the top. Replace the words Click to add title with the title of your second slide. The cursor will move to the text area. Type in the three lines of text for your second slide that you wrote down before. Congratulations. You have made a two slide presentation.

18 Duplicate your slide Duplicate the slide by clicking the down arrow next to New Slides in the Slides group of the Home tab. Then click on Duplicate Selected Slides, so you can have your original back when you have finished experimenting with the it in the next step.

20 Justify lines Make the first line of text center justified.  Select the first line of text.  In the Paragraph group of the Home tab,click on the center justified icon Make the second line of text right justified.  Select the second line of text.  In the Paragraph group of the Home tab,click on the right justified icon Make the third line (if any) full justified.  Select the third line of text.  In the Paragraph group of the Home tab,click on the full justified icon, and then press enter.

23 Format text Make the title in Olde English Text  Select the title of the slide by clicking and dragging over it  In the Font group of the Home tab, change the font to some other font, e.g. Old English Text.  Make the font size bigger, e.g. 60 Make the first line of text a different color, say red.  Select the first line of text by clicking and dragging over it.  Click on the drop down arrow next to the Font color icon in the Font group. A set of colors will show up.  Choose a color and click on it, Your text will change to that color. Underline the second line of text.  Select the second line of text by clicking and dragging over it.  Click on the Underline icon in the Font group. Make the third line of text in italics  Select the third line of text by clicking and dragging over it.  Click on the Italics icon in the Font group.

26 Add a theme to your presentation You might want to review the Lynda.com movie on themes first.review Click on the Design tab Try various theme by moving the cursor over them. Select a theme you like and click on it. All the slides in your presentation should change.

27 Print out your Presentation Open the File tab Click on Print Click on the Print icon Put your name and date on the printout Turn it into the instructor by next week.

29 Delete your last slide Select last slide Right click and press delete key

30 Change the formatting on the second slide the way you would like it.
