2 T ECHNOLOGY S TANDARDS FOR T EACHERS How do State standards compare with National standards?

3 N ATIONAL E DUCATIONAL T ECHNOLOGY S TANDARDS When looking at national standards for technology education, it is all about giving students lots of different ways to achieve success via different kinds of technology.

4 N ATIONAL E DUCATIONAL T ECHNOLOGY S TANDARDS Teachers are expected to meet the following indicators: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments Model Digital-Age Work and Learning Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership

5 M ARYLAND T EACHER T ECHNOLOGY S TANDARDS Teachers are expected to use these standards for the basis of their use of technology in the classroom: Information Access, Evaluation, Processing and Application Communication Legal, Social and Ethical Issues Assessment for Administration and Instruction Integrating Technology into the Curriculum and Instruction Assistive Technology Professional Growth

6 S TATE AND N ATIONAL S TANDARDS S IMILARITIES : I NVOLVING S TUDENTS Both of these standards: Encourage use of the appropriate technology Encourage uses of different kinds of technology Promote looking at possible legal issues before using that technology in the classroom. Hold teachers accountable for teaching and modeling “netiquette” to their students. Hope teachers will use technology often to create a rich environment for student learning.

7 S TATE AND N ATIONAL S TANDARDS S IMILARITIES : I NVOLVING T EACHERS Teachers are expected to use many different groups and online resources Teachers are expected to continually evaluate their practices with technology. Teachers are expected to reflect on these evaluations to make better use of technology in the classroom.

8 S TATE AND N ATIONAL S TANDARDS D IFFERENCES : F OR S TUDENTS Gets way more in depth in what is expected out of teachers Gives you more ways to integrate technology into the curriculum Much more abstract More focused on letting students develop creatively Focuses on students ability to be fluent with online terms and the web more StateNational

9 S TATE AND N ATIONAL S TANDARDS D IFFERENCES : F OR T EACHERS You have to set a much more heavy foundation because you are expected to give students tools to build on for life Encourages teachers to look online for activities Encourages teachers to participate actively in online communities Encourages teachers to use “emerging” technology Holds teachers accountable for contributing to the success of technology in their classroom and school. 10 O VERVIEW Overall teachers are expected to use technolgy in their classrooms They are expected to look out for possible legal issues They are expected to contribute to the well being of their school They are expected to use technology in the classroom often They are expected to get students comfortable with using technology since it is such an importable tool to have in this upcoming world.
