Ozone Layer Depletion By: Lauryn and Rachel Money.

2 What is the Ozone layer?! The ozone layer is an atmospheric layer that helps shield life from ultraviolet radiation, which helps minimize the breakage of DNA.

3 How is it happening? Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), are chemicals that are emitted into the lower atmosphere. These chemicals slowly penetrate into the stratosphere, where they then consume ozone molecules.

4 Why all the depletion?  First observed in the mid-1980’s, pollution is the factor causing ozone layer depletion. Examples; Chemicals in air conditioning and cooling units. Aerosol spray (hairsprays). Cleaning processes of electronical equipment.

5 What is ultraviolet radiation?
Ultraviolet light is a form of electromagnetic radiation. (The term electromagnetic spectrum refers to all forms of energy transmitted by means of waves traveling at the speed of light.) This is the radiation that causes tanning and sunburns and can lead to skin cancer.
