2 ~Before~ Before they were the famous Three Stooges that we all know and love, the Stooges started out as a Vaudeville act in 1920 with a main man Ted Healy. They performed an act called “Ted Healy and his Stooges”, only grouped with Shemp and Moe Horwitz (Larry was added later). They toured around the country, performing comedy slapstick in multiple vaudeville theaters.

3 ~The Start~ They split with Healy in 1934 once and for all due because of Healy's alcoholism and abrasiveness. Parting ways to go to Colombia in 1934, the “new” Three Stooges; Curley, Larry and Moe; began their journey into the short film business. Shemp left the group in the beginning of their entry into Colombia pictures.

4 ~During~ During their time at Colombia Pictures, the Three Stooges made 190 shorts within the time period of 25 years (averaging at about 7 shorts per year) with a total of 220 shorts. The Three Stooges’ fame sky rocketed seemilgly over night. The Stooges’ brand of slap stick tickled the sides of ALL ages, bringing some laughs in the depression age.

8 ~Moe Howard~

9 ~Moe~ Born June 19 th, 1897 in Brooklyn, New York His real name is Moses Horwitz The fourth of five boys At a young age, he fell in love with performing. He would regularly ditch school to see plays, and only lasted two months in high school before dropping out to pursue an acting career.

10 ~Moe~ He meet Ted Healy and in 1921 they began a vaudeville act. Two years later, Moe’s brother Shemp joined. Married Helen Schonbereger on June 7 th 1925. They had two children. The group with Healy lasted until 1934, when they split. Moe became the iconic short- tempered, slapstick inducing leader of the Three Stooges.

11 ~Larry Fine~

12 ~Larry Fienberg~ Larry Fine was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1902. As a kid, he was badly burned with acid, which started his career in a way. The doctor advised him to take up the violin as a form of therapy on his arm. From there he excelled at the violin and created an act with it. He dabbled in boxing for a while. He was quite good!

13 ~Larry~ In 1930 the stooges appeared on the big screen for the first time in a Columbia production, “Soup to Nuts” Larry and his wife, Mabel, lived in hotels for majority of their married life. Larry eventually bought a house in Los Angeles. He and Mable had two children. Their son tragically died at the age of 24 in a car accident. Larry died January 24, 1975

14 ~Curley Howard~

15 ~Curly~ Born October 22, 1903 in Brooklyn, New York Named Jerome Lester "Jerry" Horwitz 5 th out of five brothers first on-stage break was as a comedy musical conductor in 1928 for the Orville Knapp Band (over shadowed the bands performance) married his first wife, Julia Rosenthal, on August 5, 1930, but the couple had their marriage annulled shortly afterwards

16 ~Curly~ Had 4 wives and two kids (2nd and 4 th wives) Loved to pick up stray dogs and take them with him town to town until he found an owner for them Always the main punching bag for Moe, taking most of the high end abuse in the trio Suffered from strokes which caused his career to end short, later killing him at the age of 48

17 Fun Facts!!!! Moe’s wife was the cousin of Harry Houdini and the marriage lasted nearly 50 years. The Stooges got a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 30, 1983. Curly had chestnut red hair and a mustache Moe’s haircut was called Buster Brown Curly was shy about his bald head in public Took four days to film a short

19 ~End~ The Three Stooges truly ended in May 4, 1975 when Moe died of lung cancer not too long after his life long friend Larry died of a stroke-induced cerebral hemorrhage on January 24, 1975. Attempts to continue failed with hard times (seeing as some of the replacements died too) and it was truly an end to the once famous and beloved comedy trio.

20 ~Memories~ The Three Stooges remain wildly popular with audiences even today. Their films have never left the television screen since appearing in 1958, continuing to delight old fans while attracting a new legion of enthusiastic admirers. The durable act endured several personnel changes in their careers that would have permanently sidelined a less persistent performance. The Three Stooges will not be FORGOTTEN!!
