3 What is the Wagner Scholars Academy? The Scholars Academy is a rigorous college preparatory program designed to help students discover and develop their talents and achieve their best. Our two coordinators work closely with each Academy member to choose an individualized program tailored to his or her needs. Our 500 members are challenged by Scholars and AP Classes in all disciplines. All Scholars are required to earn an Advanced Regents Diploma. Students are strongly encouraged to be an active part of the Wagner community by joining clubs and teams.

4 Who is a candidate for Scholars? Our students are chosen based upon the results of seventh grade standardized exams & classroom grades. To be accepted into the program, students must meet the following milestones: For Public School Students: Achieve high threes and fours on the standardized reading and math exams. For Private School Students: Be in at least the 80 th percentile in reading and math. For All Students:  An average in Math, Science, English and Social Studies of at least 90, with NO grade below an 85.  A good record of attendance and punctuality  An exemplary record of school citizenship

5 To apply to the Scholars Academy you must indicate us as a choice on the High School Program Choices Form. This application is submitted to your current guidance counselor.

6 What are the benefits of the Susan E. Wagner High School Scholars Academy?  We are small--the number of Scholars is limited to 134 for each grade level.  Scholars benefit from the personalized guidance of two dedicated advisors.  As a small academy within a large comprehensive high school, we are able to offer students a wide variety of course options and extracurricular activities.

9 College Level Classes The Scholars Academy is proud of the variety of opportunities we provide to our students to take college level classes. These classes challenge our students intellectually. They also offer the chance to enter college with a significant number of credits, thus easing the financial burden of college.

11 St. John’s College Extension: This program offers students the opportunity to earn St. John’s Credits in Statistics, Calculus, Foreign Language,Opera College of Staten Island Discovery Institute: Many of our students enjoy the experience of attending classes on a college campus. Through this CSI Program, students take the following: StatisticsPsychologySociologyPre-Calculus
