3 ‘Start Menu’ of Windows XP Windows Desktop 4.1 The Windows Environment Recently used programs All Programs: Run a program. My Recent Documents: Open files which are recently used. Printer and Faxes: Install or select a printer. Search: Look up a file. Run: Run a program using command line. Shut Down: Exit Windows and turn off the computer.

4 Using Icons –Different desktop icons have different meanings and functions. –represent a file, a folder or a program –If we double-click an icon, we can open a data file, a folder or execute a program. 4.1 The Windows Environment My Computer: To show the computer’s components. My Network Places: To view the computer networks that are linked to this computer.

5 Using Icons 4.1 The Windows Environment Recycle Bin: To view files that are recently deleted and to restore those files in it. Internet Explorer: To run the Internet Explorer program. My Documents: To open the folder and view the content inside. Word document: To run Microsoft Word and open the document file. Different types of icons
