Employers Too many students are not prepared for work. Evidence: Too many entry level employees lack soft skills. Too many entry level employees lack academic knowledge. Why BRIDGE?

8 Career Pathways: Education with a Purpose

9 A career pathway is……. a coherent sequence of rigorous academic and career courses that begins in high school and leads to an associate degree, a bachelor’s degree and beyond, and/or an industry recognized certificate or license. Career pathways are developed, implemented, and maintained by partnerships involving educators, community leaders, and employers.

10 Career Clusters The US Dept of Education has designated 16 clusters that form the basis for Career Pathways. – Georgia uses 11 clusters. (FY 12 moving to the 16 federal clusters + 1 energy cluster = 17 clusters for Georgia) Each cluster represents a group of related industries (GA: agribusiness, aerospace, healthcare & eldercare, life sciences, energy & environmental, logistics & transportation) and occupations in the American economy. 15 Pathways: The Houston County Way  Pathways in Houston County – not determined in haste  Decisions concerning which pathways to offer:  Business needs assessment  Teacher input  Student interest surveys  Purpose of Houston County Career Pathway Chart  Communication tool showing pathways offered in our system at each school within a 4 year period of time  Additional info included – use with key  May be used as advisement tool by counselors and teachers  Houston County Career Pathway Chart Plan  System level chart showing all pathways for all schools – CTAE Director responsibility  School level chart showing all pathways for school – CTAE Supervisor responsibility Accountability for pathway completers (Perkins & College & Career Performance Index) – impt for each school to determine how best to schedule classes in order to allow opportunities for students to complete a pathway within 4 years of high school  NOTE: The Houston County Career Pathway Charts have been developed as a concise tool that contains much info from GaDOE. The charts are not intended to be used as official regulations of GaDOE due to the ever changing revisions to rules and regulations for GaDOE.
