6. 6  In 1998, the US Government and the European Union entered into a research collaboration arrangement.  In 1999, Cedars-Sinai started to explore potential collaborations with European Medical Centers and Biomedical Research Institutes.  Cedars-Sinai, in conjunction with the EU Research and Technology Development Division, developed several project proposals.  Funding for such collaborations could be available through the NIH, NSF and the Fogarty International Center. 7. 7  February 2001, the first meeting between Central & Eastern European Countries and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center took place.  September 2001, Cedars-Sinai and four Hungarian Universities entered into Research and Technology Transfer Agreements and new partners from other Central European Countries were introduced to the project.  2003 CSMC implemented the “Bridges in Life Sciences Program™”.  2002-2005 Cedars-Sinai and additional CEE Universities entered into Research and Technology Transfer Agreements from Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. PHASE 2: In 2005, in order to enhance the effectiveness of the project, CSMC implemented the Research and Innovation Management Training Program (RIMET TM ) to train: scientists physicians healthcare managers for research and technology transfer management. PHASE 3: Next step is focused on building self-sufficiency of the CEE Universities by building a Strategic Alliance and Intellectual Property or “IP” Warehouse.
