S T A T I S T I K A U S T R I A Background and Rules for all Activities of Statistics Austria  Statistics Austria has been privatized in 2000  All statistics not ordered by Federal Statistical Law 2000 have to be paid by the customer  Statistics Austria has no national legal base for calculating energy balances and international energy reporting both and all concerning actions to improve their quality are done on basis of a private contract with the two ministries only  Statistics Austria has implemented TQM by applying the following six criteria:  relevance  accuracy  timeliness and punctuality  accessibility and clarity  comparability and  Coherence  At the moment the main results (energy balances, energy accounts, energy efficiency indicators, quality reports) are published in German (www.statistik.at/ fachbereich_energie/txt.shtml) and in English (www.statistik.at/ englisch/results/raum/energy_txt.shtml) but electronically onlywww.statistik.at/ fachbereich_energie/txt.shtmlwww.statistik.at/ englisch/results/raum/energy_txt.shtml

10. S T A T I S T I K A U S T R I A The recent Situation A well working close collaboration between all players has been established. Regional and national energy balances are harmonized with the 5 Annual Joint Questionnaires. Since 2005 Statistics Austria is able to finalize Energy balances early enough with satisfying data quality to fill in the 5 JQ in time. Since 2007 Statistics Austria is calculating an overall uncertainty of the Gross Inland Consumption. Since 2008 Statistics Austria compiles Energy Accounts, fully harmonized with the Energy Balances. For the time being Statistics Austria develops more detailed commodity balances, especially for biofuels as an improved database for reporting obligations due to the RES Directive.

S T A T I S T I K A U S T R I A The Main Future Tasks Continue to calculate bridge tables as further links for energy related aspects in the National Accounts to the Energy Accounts to establish an overall harmonized system. Develop and calculate additional energy efficiency indicators basing on official energy data. Continue to improve data base - especially for RES and district heat timeliness and data quality models used to calculate energy balances
