A Vision of K-12 Students Today

Podcast Info  This I tunes website gives all the essential information on how to submit a podcast. This document is what we used to set up the account and continue to use as we add more podcasts.

Lessons  Think about Power Points, videos, and technology that can integrate technology.  These lessons may be the beginning of your podcasts.  Who is your audience and what is the purpose?  Let’s get started!

Ten Black Dots  Ten Black Dots by Donald Crews Share the story and have the students make a class book. Pose the problem “How many dots were used to create our book?” Quick Images… Place counters on overhead or doc cam and without allowing time to count, have students tell how many. 10 Black Dots Podcast

Doubles Baby  Read Doubles the Ducks by Stuart Murphy.  Students work with a partner to make their own “Doubles Book.”  The students then learn the poem from the podcast.

Get Up and Go! By Stuart Murphy  Share story with the students as they record the times on their clocks.  Students make their individual elapsed time books.  Scan pictures and import these into Photo Story.  Students record themselves reading their book.

Number Squeeze  Read the story More or Less by Stuart Murphy to the class.  Teach the students how to play Number Squeeze by listening to the directions on the podcast.  After they have played, list strategies for guessing the number in the least amount of guesses.

Show Me the Money  Read any book you have that introduces coins. I like the books by Mary Hill that introduces each coin.  After we read the book the children make their own coin books using coin stamps.  Then we learn the chant about coins from the podcast.

Math Games  Students record the rules and demonstrate how to play games we use in the classroom. These games can then be played at home or can be used by other classes. They realize the importance of communicating effectively.

I Tunes U  Tennessee State Department has several podcasts listed by subject area and grade.

Why use podcasts in your classroom?  Talk to a partner and discuss how you would use a podcast in your classroom?  What are the advantages?  What will you need to do as soon as you get back to school?  Good luck!
